i haven’t but a friend of mine was told she was going to have a 12lb baby and ended up having a 9lb baby. i’m 28 weeks and was told my baby is already weighing 2lbs 13oz and that he is going to be a chunk, but i’m trying not to overthink it or ill send myself into a panic lol xx
My daughter was apparently measuring big throughout. I had growth scans at 32, 34, 36 and 38 weeks. She was born at 39+5 weighing 7lbs 15.5oz.
I will just say that I was told something very similar at 37 weeks and I didn’t take it seriously because I’d seen comments on here about them being wildly inaccurate measurements… she ended up being 9lb 4oz born at 41 weeks! Turns out they were spot on.
I was told my baby was going to be 11lb she was 8lb 6oz at 38 weeks. She was born at 39+1 and weighed 8lb 11oz
@Sophie sorry but it’s your mistake for trusting scans. They are not accurate.
I was told my baby was going to be around 12lbs and that his shoulders were measuring large and they pushed me to have a c section saying he would be too large to carry to term and he came out a completely normal 8.4lbs at 40+2 I cried during my growth scans they made me so scared to give birth and really pushed inductions and caesarean on me.
@Incognito was there a need for that comment 👀. Scans can be accurate? Just more often than not are somewhat inaccurate.
@Incognito when you're been told that your first baby is going to be a whopper it's scary as hell. So it's not her mistake at all
I was told 8lb and he was 8lb 11oz at 38 weeks
@Rhiann it’s very rare for them to be accurate
@Chloe It just annoys me that she’s had a c section unnecessarily, and the fact that they were 5lbs off the actual birth weight. That’s a massive difference! The fact that they are inaccurate 98% of the time just shows that they are not something to trust.
@Viki well she wasn’t educating herself on growth scans I guess. You can’t just blindly follow everything doctors say. They’re not always right.
@Incognito it’s true that they’re often less accurate for very small or very large babies, but it’s still around 65% with 10% margin for error.
@Incognito but you can’t say that they’re always wrong because they’re not. And it’s not “her mistake” she trusted medical professionals and unfortunately a c section wasn’t needed. My baby was predicted to be 8lbs and when she was born she was 9lbs 12oz and got stuck. It goes both ways x

@Incognito when it's your first baby you know nothing! You trust the professionals. The last thing I wanted was a c-section but you know what I absolutely loved it it was magical and the main thing was my baby was delivered safely. If you're been told about your baby been big it's scary. You worry and you're already worrying about birth as it is ! It's not a mistake it's a choice a mother makes
I was told my baby would be over 9lb full term and in 97th percentile. They offered induction but I did decline this. She then came 3 days before her due date and weighed 7lbs 13oz x
With our first they said he'd be 10lb full term and he was born 40+5 weighing 7lb 14oz x
I was told there is 20% discrepancy either way. I got told my LB was weighing 7lbs 12 on the Thursday he was born on the Monday and weighed 8lbs 9.
@Viki I was just gonna say nothing wrong with having a section anyway 🩷
I’ve been told my baby is around 7lbs at 37 weeks and on the 90th percentile so looking like a chunk 🥰 obvs it can be inaccurate but we have to go off the info we’ve got don’t we?!
@Incognito have you got a link to data to show they're "inaccurate 98% of the time"?
I measured as average the whole pregnancy and she turned out to be 9lb3! I had a normal birth, it was all ok. I know it's daunting but your body can do amazing things, it will all be alright 🤗
I was told he’d be 8lb5 and 90th centile at a 37 week growth scan. He ended up being 10lb8oz. No gestational diabetes just a very big baby. But just to say we’re both healthy and while we did end up needing a semi-emergency C-Section it wasn’t anywhere near as scary as I’d built it up to be in my head xx
@Amelia very similar happened to me :(
I’ve heard both positive and negative stories, some people’s babies were estimated huge and were normal, others elected for a c section and said it was the best decision for them! It’s all circumstantial, and unfortunately nothing is certain, and the scans are only estimates based off babies position at the time x
Had a growth scan at 38/39 weeks and they said she was 7lb 6oz Born at 41+3 weighing 7lb 8oz 😅
I was told at 36wk scan baby was measuring 8lb4oz approximately. She came at 40+2 as 7lb15oz. Always take it with a pinch of salt x
I was told 7lbs and she came out 10lbs 1 lol 😂 I had gas and air and lots of support from hubby and midwives, best position I found for pushing her out was on my side with midwife lifting my leg :) ❤️
I was told he was 8lb 7oz 5 at a scan 5 days before he was born and he was 6lb 11oz

Thanks everyone! These comments are actually helping alot and putting my mind at rest a little 😊 .. I know as long as he is healthy it doesnt really matter but I really was hoping he would be 8.5lb or less when he is born haha x
@Incognito was there any need for that comment. I was not risking put my baby's life in danger .
Hi hun i had the same. The scans were saying I was going to have 12lb baby he came by planned c section as I was really worried about birthing 12lb baby. He came out 7lb 15oz
