Date Confusion

Hey guys, I've been for a scan this afternoon expecting to be 7 weeks. Scan has shown 5wk6d, with sac, yolk, pole and very strong heartbeat which we actually heard and measured around 100bpm. Now, I seem to remember the dates changing a lot with my first baby but not as much as this.. the tech seemed to say it's all good and nothing to worry about, but there's a week and a bit difference unaccounted for. Can someone just explain why this could be? I'm absolutely certain I ovulated around the 4th Jan which if you count backwards is the 5wks6d. Does the scan show gestational age overall or does it also include LMP? I did ask but I don't think the tech quite understood what I was asking and just kept repeating the measurements (I was probably confusing her bless her!) Thank you ❤️

Hi! I know someone that got dated like this and in the next scan (2 weeks later) the baby caught up. They are just so small at this stage and can be hard to date or measure. Wouldn’t worry if baby is all good :)

I was recently told that the most accurate time for dating was at 12 weeks scan (offered based off LMP) because before this they may measure smaller but have a growth spurt and catch up.

The early scans are lovely for the reassurance that baby is developing but I think the purpose isn't necessarily dating the pregnancy and therefore I'd wait for the 12 week scan for more accuracy xo
