Blood glucose numbers

Anyone else always have low numbers ? My numbers this week are rarely hitting 5 they have all been between 4.0 and 4.9. I’m not restricting myself food wise I’m still eating carbs like bread and sweet potatoes fries

That's not low that's average for most non type 1's and 2's.

You think this is okay to stay within this range even after eating a main meal ?

I’ve had a few lows but usually first thing in the morning last time the midwife said I might be going hypo in the night which is why. if it’s been a busy day and I’ve been on my feet a lot . I have glucose chews or some orange juice for emergencies since you’re not meant to drive below 5

@Audrey are you taking medication to control yours ? I haven’t been told below 5 is anything to worry about and have been driving this whole time 😅 I’m just diet controlled so I can’t have a true “hypo” and I just need to eat if I get low numbers between 2-3. Iv never had that thankfully. I was just concerned that even though I’m eating in not going above 4.9

No im diet controlled but when I was diagnosed I was given orange notes to take with me to appointments and in there it says not to drive below 5 so I’ve just tried to stick to that 😂

@Audrey it’s crazy how different places have so many different rules and targets ! Iv seen so many different targets for number too

I recently moved in Rotherham after food my target was 5.3- 7.3 but in derby it’s up to 8 so it’s just confusing. But both said don’t worry about being below target .Annoyingly most of my appointments were first thing in the morning before breakfast I ended up sent to triage with really low numbers 🤷🏾‍♀️

I would speak to your diabetes midwife about this because they'll have specific trust protocol for it, they may not be concerned but I think better that you raise with them than worry about it. They might be able to reassure you or if it is a concern then they can help you to understand why

Absolutely fine, even if it did go very low (2.6 for example) you have glucose stores in your liver that are released so you'd be fine (diabetic nurse 😊 👋)

@Charlie thank you so much 😭 I tried calling my diabetic team but they’re all closed now for the weekend I was so close to calling triage because I was in a panic. Iv eaten a chocolate digestive and 15 minutes later my blood glucose is still the same 😭

@Charlie what has frightened me is seeing online that the placenta can fail and a symptom of that is your numbers not increasing after eating. Mines do increase but not by a lot

I’m really in a spiral over this and the diabetes nurses/clinics are closed for the weekend. Anytime I reach out to the gestational diabetes uk Facebook group my posts get declined too so Iv left because they’ve never been of any help to me. They said I’m not testing properly but I’m doing what my hospital told me to. I have done extra tests after meals and still no difference in numbers. I hate GD 😭😭

Hopefully it will be gone soon , it’s defo given me a wake up call that I never want to develop diabetes if I can prevent it . Too much work 😭 defo push to be seen from Monday and see someone

No like decrease to 2's not 4's. If you need reassurance go to your maternity triage and ask for a placenta scan. I can't comment because you're not my patient but we don't worry unless significant swelling, dizziness, sight loss and blood sugars dropping below 2.8 after food.

@Charlie my bloods went up into the 5’s after having more carbs with my dinner so that’s made me feel better, I had a scan yesterday and everything was perfect on there, that’s what Iv kept telling myself today to ease the anxiety
