Miscarriage method

I had an 8 week scan today (second pregnancy after a successful one) and it showed that the baby measured 5 weeks despite having a yolk sac which develops at 7 weeks. The doctor said it’s a struggling pregnancy and the baby isn’t growing, heartbeat was weak too. I’ll have another scan next week and I’ll probably be given the option of the pill or D&C. Any advice to what to go for? It’s my first miscarriage.

Go for a D&C. I’ve taken the pill for an 8 week fetus that stopped growing and they didn’t work. However, I would wait until no heartbeat is confirmed before doing anything!

I had this on a scan 2 weeks ago and then I started naturally miscarrying the next day🥲

Be warned, d&c would cost me $1800 even with insurance so just brace for cost if you choose that route.

Also with a loss that early it’s actually just like a heavy period when you expel at home, physically it wasn’t that bad. I’ve had three losses and one of mine was early like this and it was the least horrible.

Sorry me again, one more thing! You probably don’t need the pill with a loss that early unless you want to have more control over the timing of the bleeding. I’ve used the pill to help get everything out after I had passed most of the tissue and it wasn’t too bad but I’ve heard it can be a little aggressive pain wise.

So all of that to say I would recommend expectant management rather than medical or surgical management.

i miscarried with my first and only pregnancy and i really recommend the D&C. i had my last scan and started to expel the same day ironically after they said it seemed my body just didn’t want to. i was measuring 6 weeks but i was about 9 when this happened. it was the most physical pain ive ever been in. i’m almost convinced it was what contractions actually feel like. it didn’t last long and the doctors were right, my body didn’t want to finish expelling the rest of the tissue. had my d&c two days later and it saved me the trouble of feeling that pain again and helped me begin to heal emotionally sooner. i do agree - be aware of potential cost and wait until you and your doctor are certain of your situation.

I would go for the D&C I went for waiting natural didn’t happen then went in to hospital for medical management bled out for 16 hours huge clots passing every 30 mins I passed out 2 times pregnancy still didn’t pass then next morning tried to remove it on the ward with local anaesthetic didn’t work so then ended up going for D&C wish I just opted for that it was long gruelling 3 night stay in the hospital xxxx

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and I’m sorry for your losses. I heard D&C is the best option and wanted to check. Luckily in the UK where I live it’s free on the NHS. I’m booked for another scan next week

I had a yolk sac and a gestation sac at 5 weeks but nothing else, I passed naturally in the end, sorry for your loss
