Knife use

Has anyone started introducing a knife? We got a set of fork and knife from IKEA and today I thought I’d give it to LO during lunch. I tried showing her what I was doing, cutting my meat. She just used it as a spoon 😂 Any ideas on how to help her use a knife apart from her copying me?

My boy has a knife set and he tries to help me butter toast, also mainly uses it as a spoon. But I’ll also give it to him to cut some soft fruit and show him how to do it. I find it best to use during meal prep rather than to eat with x

so to get my son used to how a knife works i brought him a plastic knife set from amazon and he helps cut sausages, strawberries anything soft realky so now when i give him a knife with his dinner he tries to cut up his food x

My boy says "cut" a lot and wants me to cut for him. We've got the plastic knives for toddlers that cut food but not skin for his birthday so will get him helping prepare stuff and hopefully that will help. He's still not great with a fork tbh he'd rather hold it in one hand and use the other to eat with!

@Sam my LO loves using a fork to eat, to stab her plate or to put the wrong end in her mouth and chew 😂 she also sometimes holds it while eating with her hands.

My little boy has used a knife for a while and can chop quite well by himself. Didn’t make a big deal of it, I just handed it to him and he copied what we do
