Refusing milk :(

Hey! My little one is 5 months next week and we’re now day 5 of her refusing some of her feeds. She used to have 6oz every 3 hours. The health visitor then told us to add a night need at 11pm ( 3hrs after the last feed ) to help with the sleep regression. So I did but now she’s literally refusing pretty much half her feeds. Sometimes she’ll drink all 6oz and then the next two feeds she will only have 3oz. She’s still having the average of 25oz-30oz within a 24hr period though so I haven’t taken her to the drs yet. She doesn’t get upset, she just acts like she’s bored of it and wants to get down and play. We’ve tried eliminating distractions, changing teat size, stimulation. All of it. Because she’s still having the average amount for her age. Do you reckon it’s okay? Needing some reassurance or guidance. X

Yeah if having 25-30oz in 24hrs that sounds like it’s fine to me! My lg is on 25th centile and has about 28oz in 24hrs. I would say it’s perfectly fine 😁

My 5 month old has done the same, we've stretched the time between feeds so sometimes goes more like 4 hours and drains his bottles, not sure I would also add a night feed to aid with sleep regression personally I had to train my boy out of it as he got used to waking up middle of the night for milk and then that upset his daytime feeding as well as he was filling up overnight not in the day 😅

My little one did this, it only lasted a few days but turns out she just wanted the teats changing to new ones, or so it seems. Apparently they can have a soapy taste and make them not want to keep feeding. She also became very fussy with the temp of her bottle and likes it hot or she won’t drink it. Fingers crossed it doesn’t last long cause it’s so stressful and they end up waking through the night when they usually sleep through :( x

Absolutely fine. They are getting enough within 24hrs.

Thank you all! So relieved and reassured now. I changed the teat on the last feed and she drained all 6oz after only having 3oz on the previous 2. I’ll keep going with size 3 teat and see if it helps. Xx

@Harriet how did to train him? I’m combi feeding but since the regression my little one feeds a few more times at night than before! She now takes barely half her bottles in the day 🙄

Sounds like she’s just managing her hunger and drinking what she needs. If she’s well and happy with plenty of wet nappies I wouldn’t worry.

@Ellen thank you! Yes I think it’s this too. Xx
