It is very normal at this age, don't sweat it. Infact even at the of 3 they aren't always interested in the book. Let them explore infact getting books with buttons and sensory things is better so they can join in and just read any page that's there. Infact just explain the colours on the page it's not about taking it in but more bonding
Mine only ever wants to eat books too if he can get his hands on them😆 I know it's less cosy/cuddly but since my LO self soothes to sleep anyway (hates contact napping or being rocked/cradled to sleep lol) ~ I lay him down inside his cot then pull up a little foot stool and sit beside his crib and read to him that way. He can still see the pictures etc and lay there listening but he doesn't have the urge to grab at it since he's just lay chilling getting ready for his nap. Maybe that could help? But depends on your usual routine I suppose?
The LO was firstly more interested in flapping the pages than reading. She also ate the books so we got some soft ones that make noise instead. Slowly, slowly she was able to focus a little bit for us to read, but is still more interested in pictures than anything
Thanks everyone! I sat him in my lap which kinda helped, he got frustrated because he couldn’t take it off me but just settled for slapping the pages instead 😂
Same here! I have found that he will eat the books with many words, but he will be actually interested in the books that have flaps and he can open them. These books usually come with none or very little words so I tend to sing songs that refer to an object that’s in the book, eg dog, bingo. Make the sound of the dog, counting etc Also, just a thought, create a membership to your local library. it’s a huge benefit as you can explore freely what they like I borrow both books with flaps for during the day and books with words for the night calm down. I read the book while he plays next to me
