Colostrum collecting

So I got the go ahead from my midwife that I start collecting colostrum, I had collected before she said in collection cups as I was leaking but obviously didn’t actually try to make it happen, my question is I’ve been collecting but I’m getting so much! I have nearly 40ml in the freezer now, and today I tried to collect and got 13ml! And that was only 5 minutes each side, am I over producing colostrum? Very confused first time mum to be! 🩷

Hey. When did you start collecting? Sorry asking because I am 36 weeks and wondering if I should start

@Fatima I got the go ahead from my midwife at 36 weeks 😄

Wow this is a lot! I have been chuffed getting 0.7ml in a session lol 🤣🙈 I imagine everyone just gets different amounts (same with BF really) and if you’re worried speak to your midwife.

This is amazing, well done you!🥰

My midwife said I shouldn't start till 38 weeks :(

@Rachel I started getting about half a syringe to a ml when I started and then all of a sudden day by day it went up so much! I was so shocked x

@Faye Thankyou! The thing is, is it normal! 😅

@Danielle I think all different trusts have different rules! That’s the problem, and I think it depends if your high risk ect? I’m not sure x

How did you go about collecting? Hand expressing or pump?x

Wow well done this is a great amount, I started at 36 weeks. I am now 36+6 but only managing to get tiny beads of colostrum that I can't even syringe unfortunately 😔. Can I ask your step by step method please? x
