You can get the wipe clean books with marker pens, you could use whiteboards, like above an aquadoodle or something similar. If you’re UK there’s a website called toysforapound, they have lots of colouring books, some mess free ones too

We have a reusable mat the he draws on, also a tablecloth that have prints on it and we just wash it and it comes off. He’s also got a massive chalkboard wall in his room that I painted for him. And he draws chalk on the front pavement which rain just washes away. He’s also got an easel but we gave that away last year when he was 4
A water mat ? You fill the pen or paintbrush with water, some of them come with sponges or stamps too, However using pens and crayons at that age is the best way for them to learn the skills they need for writing and mark making .
