I wanted to go to Inverurie but phoned when I went into labour and they didn't have room for me. Blessing in disguise as I would have been transferred to Aberdeen anyway. I ended up going to the midwives unit in Aberdeen but stayed there for 2 minutes before needing to be transferred to the labour ward so I was glad it was next door. The facilities are dated but I wasn't rushed out, there were plenty of staff on hand to help and I was glad I was there since everything went south. I was on a green pathway. I've heard fantastic things about Inverurie but I'd definitely choose Aberdeen next time just for peace of mind.
I gave birth in the midwives unit in Aberdeen, and I honestly cannot fault it at all. I was the only one on the unit for my whole stay, they were soo attentive and room was immaculate. Shower/ toilet is across the hall but this was a total afterthought for me, and was no problem getting to it when needed.
Go to Inverurie, especially if you want to the whole calm experience. Very very little births end up in emergencies and Aberdeen hospital seem to work like a conveyer belt and want everyone in and out as fast as possible. I ended up having a home birth after my first in MLU as the shift changed and I was taking “too long”
