Sick of being ignored by GP & HV

My little boy is 10 months old, ever since he was born he has struggled massively with constipation & has always had small bottles of milk, I’ve been backwards & forwards to the gp & contacting my health visitor but they all just say he’s constipated & it’s normal, I’m not stupid, this is my 2nd baby & I’m also a paediatric nurse, there must be a reason my little boy is constipated! I’m convinced he has CMPA so have ordered him Aptamil pepti 2 online & I’m going to see how he goes instead of the normal Aptamil Formula he is on now. Basically I just wanted to ask did anyone else’s little one with CMPA struggle with constipation & excessive wind/gas? He can’t even get rid of his wind himself we have to help him & he’s always so uncomfortable & unsettled for a little while after his feeds, I’m so fed up of being ignored & not taken seriously. He’s only been having 1oz bottles lately I feel so bad for him he’s always so hungry but won’t have his milk 😩😩 Any advice welcome please, I’m at the end of my tether!

Hiya, my little boy had the exact same issues. He would be constipated for 5/6 days and have horrific wind. Non stop straining and was so uncomfortable. I cried and cried to the doctors & health visitors. I even ended up taking him to A&E due to his breathing when newborn as he would strain that hard that his ribs would tuck under. It was hell, seeing your baby uncomfortable and the ‘professionals’ telling you it’s normal to have ‘immature bowels’ or ‘infant dyscezia’ due to his straining. I literally ended up going to the GP and saying I’m not leaving until he is prescribed a formula for CMPA. Anddddd to my surprise within literal days he was a settled baby, pooing normally and no longer straining. WE KNOW OUR BABIES!!! Always here if u need to send a message, it’s so so tough xx

Why does it feel like we’re all living the same life 😭😩 paediatric nurse with the same problem here!! My little girl was showing signs of constipation. Continuously straining to poo and it would keep her up at night but she was opening her bowels up to 7 times a day 😩 took her to the gp and was told it’s normal???? And that she would grow out of it… anyways when she was 5 months it just got worse and we ended up taking her privately and it was confirmed cmpa. Gp still doesn’t believe she is?! She also had trouble settling because of trapped wind… I’m no help with formula as I’m bf, however the best thing we did was going private 😩

@Naosheen when you went private how did they diagnose it, with a test? I'm in a similar position too and was told by GP and a&e that's it's not CMPA, and when i asked how they knew they said, well she's putting on weight and that was it. I asked if they do testing and they said no. Wondering if i went private what they would do..

My little one was exactly the same as a baby we had days of endless tears , myself and my oldest son are lactose intolerant and I knew my 3rd baby was too ,,I went to the gp and was dismissed I went to a and e was dismissed, he ended up in hospital with rsv and they saw my concerns over his milk and he was given aptamil pepti 1 and laxido and it was a game changer we are still on the laxities daily or he struggles as he’s also got low iron so takes iron meds , without his laxative he can still get grumpy , I hope you get your little one sorted xx

Mine is the opposite. He has diarrhoea and mucusy poos with his CMPA. He does have infant dyschezia though still at 9 months old that no doctor will help with. He won’t go for up to 5 days but when he does, the stool is of normal consistency so we know it’s dyschezia and not constipation. We’ve been to chiropractor and osteopath as well which hasn’t helped. I hope it gets sorted for you soon. It’s awful seeing your baby in pain.

Hiya hope ur ok, ur baby is abit older then mine my girl is nearly 7 months i started weaning from 6months she became badly constipated so i tryed pushing more boiled warm water along with her formula milk an that helped loosen her poos, she was very bad with constipation where she use to cry an be very unsettled an her bottom red sore , but i suppose its where her body was changin bein introduced to foods … somtimes the gp are useless same like ours.. try givin more water , they do say dont swap there milk an also they can have our milk from the age of 1 years onwards.. my babygirl also farts alot too even having trapped air/ wind is uncomfortable to along side with constipation dont forget there bellys are smaller then ours as there still young. Have u tryed givin wheetabix mashed up with his milk or baby porridge add some baby puree prune juice that helped my daughter xxx hope he feels better soon 🤞 xxx

Add more fibres to his meals this will also help him poo an become less constipated 🤞
