I've had 2 natural labors and 1 induced. They seemed the same in my opinion I think it's a matter of mindset though.
My first labour was induced my second was spontaneous and had no pain relief for either. I thought my induction wasn’t that bad until my second birth which was so much easier. The induction didn’t make the contractions hurt more it’s just they never stopped so for 6 hours I was just in back to back contractions or at best I’d get 15 seconds in between. It was very draining lol
Induction is sooo painful!
My 2cm contractions on induction were worse than 10cm natural lol. Induction was so much more painful in my opinion xxx
@Breeze I am hopeful this is the case! I have spent the past 8 months getting my mind prepared for natural no pain med birth and now it’s looking like an early induction is necessary so fingers crossed my planning still pays off…
I had an induction with my first. The contractions was way worse. I was having back pain too. Second, I went into labor naturally. It was hurting more towards the front and less back pain.
@KayLee honestly I thought my induction was boring. If i remember correctly they used 2 doses of oxytocin (vaginally to ripen cervix) literally felt nothing the cervix checks were the most painful part. Once I started pictocin that's when contractions started and it was fast but no worse then my contractions with my 1st and 2nd labors. Keep your head in a good place you totally got this!!
I only gave birth once and I was induced. I read about this too, this was not fully my experience. Even with induction I was in labor for 36 hours. For hours I was barely dilating at all so then they did the Foley balloon, after the Foley balloon is when I experienced what you're describing as going into strong labor and pain very quickly and it was a lot to bear but we got through and it was all worth it. Birth will be uncomfortable and painful, there's no way around that but you'd be surprised what you can do and handle, I was terrified but I got through it and survived and my baby was on the other side of it, you'll be okay ❤️
Being induced is so much worse than natural labor. with my first and third i had to be induced and i was in so much pain but with my second my water broke naturally and until it broke i didn’t even hurt
I just had my second last week, my first I was induced (only had to use misoprosal, so not pitocin)…. May be a memory issue but felt like the naturally contractions were worse. My “transition” was intense as fuck this time compared to my first.
I disagree with your doctor. All labors are different and all inductions are different. Some women might experience induction the way your dr described, but others will have a different experience. I absolutely believe women who say their induction was more painful than natural, it seems your doctor is dismissing these women. My induction didn’t start at 50%, it started at 0% just like my natural labor. For me, my induction wasn’t necessarily more severe pain but it lasted so much longer than my spontaneous birth, which is why I got the epidural for induction but not for spontaneous.
@Rebecca I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t think she was dismissive. I didn’t word exactly how she came across in this post, just my mild understanding of it. I know everyone has different labors, she was trying to make me feel better about it because she knew my initial plan was to go all natural with no epidural and now I need an induction.
I don’t know if it’s “ worse “ necessarily but inductions usually bring the contractions on strong and fast, so there’s no gradual build up of them getting worse slowly if that makes sense?? So maybe more intense?
@Jordyn this is exactly what my doc was explaining!

I had one induction and one spontaneous labour and the induction was worse in every way. The contractions are not natural so they can be way longer and more painful than spontaneous contractions. Also they can be back to back which means essentially an endless contraction forever and no one can handle that pain, it's meant to last like a minute not an hour.
I’ve never been induced so I maybe completely wrong, but I suppose if you haven’t given birth before (or even if you have!) and need to be induced it would be more painful as there is no build up therefore no time for your body to adjust to the pain it’s just full on straight away? Also it’s forcing your body into labor before it’s ready which may not help. Like I say I could be wrong x
My first labour was natural and my second was induced and honestly I didn’t see much difference at all, maybe slightly more painful as my first I only had gas and air and the second I had gas and air with diamorphine towards the end
Yep my induction labour was definitely more painful “earlier” if that makes sense. I never needed pessary to ripen cervix so went straight to having my waters broken, and went from like 0-100 in 10 minutes 😩
My induction with my youngest those contractions were ten times worse than normal contractions but that's because they were brought on. I had the hormone drip with her so it was just a bit intense!
I was induced with my first. The contractions for me came in hot and heavy right off the bat, then slowed down and then would pick back up hot and heavy again. I had to ask for an epidural after the second wave of contractions cause I was in so much pain and puking. My second I had a natural labour. I labored at home for 32 hours before going to the hospital because my contractions were slowly building and far in between for the first 24 hours. Since I was at home I had no choice but to get used to them building. A gradual build was definitely a lot easier than being induced where it was like jumping straight in to the strongest contractions.
My first labour wasn’t induced and I was in slow labour for 5 days it was the most horrific pain and that’s the reason I didn’t have another child until 13 years later 😂 I had my second child a year ago and that labour was induced and the pain was much less! Still hurts but for me the induced labour was by farrr the least painful and smoothest labour ever. I was only in labour for a few hours and pushing for 10 minutes.
