Unable to settle baby

I feel I've tried everything to settle my baby over the last 5 weeks since I had him and nothing seems to work. I'm feeling down and like a failure as I'm unable to settle my own child so if anyone has any tips for settling a baby that very much hates to be put down, please let me know x

Dummy settles my baby girl! Probably tried it tho x

Oh babe you’re not a bad mum at all!! I noticed it’s your first baby and the first few weeks are such a whirlwind! Is baby maybe struggling with a bad tummy or anything which could make him uncomfortable? Try bicycle legs and some gentle stretches. It’s such a tough stage and you will get through this! X

Ewan the sheep, dummy, love to dream swaddle all worked for me. On hard days I just wore him in a sling/carrier all day or took him on walks in the pram You’re not a bad mum! It’s your first and it’s hard🥺you’ve got this🫶🏼

@Louise He sleeps well on a walk/drive but wakes as soon as I stop moving and cries until he falls asleep

@Stephanie I've been trialling a dummy for a few days now and it settles him a bit better but he does still wake and get upset

@Charlotte he's not good at getting up his wind and I think he suffers from colic

@Myra yeah he'll sleep on me but wakes as soon as I transfer him and starts getting really upset

I don’t have any tips but I just wanted to say that it will get easier. I really struggled for the first 2 months to settle my boy. He’s 12 weeks now and has been much better

Also! Keep an eye out for any signs of reflux or CMPA. Grunting/spitting up/lots of gas etc. sometimes that can impact their ability to be laid flat

@Becky I think he has this. What's the solution

@Katie my boy has CMPA. We took him up the doctor and he has been put on a dairy free formula which has helped so much. He doesn’t have reflux but when we were discussing different things with the doctor they mentioned that they can prescribe infant gaviscon for reflux. Might be worth making an appointment and seeing how they can help

@Becky does this apply as my baby is only breastfed

@Katie yeah babies who are breastfed can still have reflux or CMPA. If it’s CMPA then you would need to cut dairy out of your diet. For reflux they can still prescribe gaviscon

@Becky Thank you. I will mention this to my midwife tomorrow
