Cold Sores

Has anyone gotten prescribed meds during the last few weeks of pregnancy to avoid having any flare ups? I know they do that for genital herpes but i’m really hoping they can do it for cold sores as well cuz I don’t want to have a flare up as i’m approaching birth. If you were prescribed it how many weeks were you?

My Dr told me I could take my cold sore medication in the early weeks of my pregnancy when I had a flare up! Maybe at 8 weeks? I haven’t used them since or for preventative measures but i know she approved it for me.

@Abbi I only get prescribed one dose at a time because I really only have flare ups like once a year if that but now with all the hormonal changes and the stress I’m nervous that I’ll have one right before baby comes which obviously horrifies me. I’m wondering about taking it regularly for preventative measures like they have people do who have genital herpes.

I’ve been prescribed valcylover 2 times while pregnant and the last time I took it I was 27 weeks I think! My doctor said it’s safe at all times during pregnancy and to still take it if I felt a flare up coming!

My doctors have put me on valtrex the last month of both of my pregnancies for prevention measures!
