If your parents or your in laws were the only family/friends you had around you within driving distance, but they both worked- would you expect them to still see their grandkids on the evenings/weekends? How involved would you think they should be…? I’m wondering because my in laws work (one part time one full time) and we don’t have anyone else here, but we barely see them- maybe once every month or two.

When I was first postpartum, my mom and dad would bring food and would clean our entire house, mow the lawn, etc. so that we had time to spend with our baby. They did that probably once a week but as our baby got older, they would visit maybe once or twice a month and would give us space unless otherwise we had asked for help or invited them over for something.

My parents both live near by and they both work (they are divorced). My dad and step mom travel a lot go to their lake house so they weren't seeing more than the same as your in-laws. He kept making comments how he wanted to have my son over for sleep over and I told him not till my son responds like he remembers him and likes him and that he should be aiming to see him once a week. He did that for a while and now my son gets excited to see him and his visits have gotten a little less frequent probably closer to every 2-3 weeks. My mom sees my son at least once a week. She takes our dog on the weekend and comes and spends a few hours every Sunday with my son too. So I think it just depends on the person and what they have going on in their lives.

I would think they would want to at least once or twice a month. Visit hangout maybe a grandparent sleepover. I wouldn’t expect it though. If they don’t want to be involved grandparents I’m not gonna force them. It would be unfortunate though if that was the case.

I’ve come to the point where I’m not going to be begging anyone to come see their grandchild. In my head they should be very involved because we have always been very family oriented but lately that’s not always the case.
