16 weeks midwife- heartbeat

Hi mamas, i had my 16week midwife appointment today (I'm 15+6) so a day early. She checked for babies heartbeat but struggled to find it. She heard my placenta and said this sounded really healthy and she wasn't worried. She's asked me to go back for her to try again tomorrow - has anyone else had something similar and everything been okay? Freaking out a little🥲

Have they said where your placenta is ?? Is its towards the front it could be blocking out baby's heartbeat. I'm yet to hear my baby's heartbeat through the midwife and I'm 20 weeks Tuesday but I do have mu own doubler and after my private scan I found out I have an anterior placental so I'm always picking up the placenta but sometimes difficult to pick up the heartbeat I don't think you have anything to worry about xx

It’s completely normal! It’s actually not recommended by NICE to listen to heartbeats at appointments for this exact reason, it can make mums to be really worried if they can’t find it so it’s up to the individual midwife if they want to offer it as a complimentary. Baby is so small at 16 weeks that it can be difficult - I’m 33+4 and they still struggle sometimes on me😂

@Lora they actually haven't said yet, i did have an anterior with my daughter though so i did wonder that. I have a gender scan booked for next Friday so hopefully everything will be okay xx

@Amy-May yeah i wasn't concerned at all before but now i do feel a little anxious. I had an anterior placenta with my daughter so i guess i could have that again xx
