Low fetal precentile

Had my anomaly scan today, baby no.3. 20+5 weeks. Baby was measuring on the 15th percentile, approximately 2 weeks behind. The sonographer didn’t say much just that baby was small and they worry when baby is on 10th centile or below. My worry is, I don’t see my midwife for 8 weeks and my next scan is 36 weeks. I’m a high risk pregnancy due to my own health condition and just feel ill informed of the information I received. Do you think I should call my midwife to air my concerns? Surely 8 weeks & 16 weeks is a long time to wait if baby potentially doesn’t catch up, which we won’t really know for sure until that 36 week scan? Please offer me your advice or correct me if I’m wrong. First baby who’s “small”. Previous babies born at 38+4 & 39+1 weighing 6.9/6.10. I also have badgernotes and the app is never up to date? Does anyone else experience this?

My baby is measuring on the 30th percentile and they have booked me in for a further scan at 32 weeks. She wasn’t concerned as she said girls tend to be smaller and a lot can change during pregnancy. There tends to be only cause for concern when the baby is measuring on the 10th percentile. I think waiting until you are 36 weeks seems a little long so I would recommend to contact your midwife and ask for further information too x

It's bizarre they've not asked you to come in for a 28 week scan. My last pregnancy my baby was really underweight at 20 weeks and they referred me to fetal medicine for 2 weekly scans. This pregnancy they said i have notching in the left artery so they want to see me at 28 weeks and then monthly after that. I would push your midwife to ask them to book in additional scans. Also badger notes is rubbish, mine is still stuck on my dating scan, even though Ive had 2 further scans since then...

@Sonia hi Sonia, thanks for commenting. Sonia under specialist care with fetal medicine anyway, due to my condition. But the sonographer is your usual midwife (not a specialist from fetal medicine if you know what I mean). Badger notes has been awful for me too. I’ve had bloods tests from November with no results updated on BN. I queried extra scans when she said baby was measuring small and she said no, but I’m going to call my midwife and speak to her, it’s left me really on edge! And with badger notes not performing as it should I just feel a little abandoned. I hope everything goes well for you and your baby

@Stacey hi Stacey, thank you for that. It’s good to know you’ve been offered additional scans with a baby on the 30th precentile. Baby is a boy so I’m not sure if that’s even more of a concern seeing as boy “tend” to be bigger than girls. I’ll definitely contact my midwife, if I’m honest I feel a little alone in this pregnancy with little to no midwife interaction. Especially with me being high risk myself. Thank you for commenting x

I have a community midwife who i see each week because I had a stillbirth last year due to pre-eclampsia. I have a consultant who does my fetal medicine. Are you both consultant and midwife led?x

I am high risk too they used to do scans at 28,32,36 but they have changed the reasons to be given the 28 week scan so now only get 32 and 36, are they not bringing you in at 32 weeks then??? Also I am hating badger notes I miss my book!

@Megan nope! Which I’m so shocked by. My only scans will be 12, 20 & 36 weeks. And my midwife appointments so far have been 8 weeks, 16 weeks & 28 weeks - and the 16 week one was with a random midwife who had me in and out in 5 minutes, she only spent 30 seconds checking babies heartbeat. X

@Sonia I’m consultant led, but have a community midwife. Anything hospital related and it’s all done with a specialist consultant from the maternal medicine department xx

It may be that it varies trust by trust. I've had to pay for private scans in between to calm my anxiety! I hope they book you in for a 28 weeker! X

Mine was on the 3rd and 5th centile at 20 week scan. I was re-scanned 2 weeks later and it jumped to 50th! I know it's really worrying but it might just be that baby will have a bit of a growth spurt. I was told they wouldn't do anything unless it remained below 5th x

19th percentile baby here and I’m booked in for another at 32 weeks (well 34weeks) but only because I’m under the consultant for an elective c section due to my anatomy. Sonographer said baby was a little on the small side but no concern. X
