Homeschooling

Hey Everyone! My son finally got evaluated for Autism last week, we are waiting for his results. My son is starting to take an interest in us actually reading books and participating in activities. We were going to start him in preschool, but we are having a difficult time potty training so he may not be ready by August. I wanted to go ahead and introduce him to preschool work and activity’s or at least see what homeschooling would look like for him. Another reasoning I am thinking of starting early is to help him with speech and focusing. Has anyone ever started homeschooling around 2.5 years old? What activities and preschool work is suggested?

I know this isn’t directly related to what you’re asking but I also just got my son evaluated and they diagnosed him with autism. They also did a separate screening for what’s called I/DD therapy on top of qualifying for ABA. To my understanding it qualifies your little for extra help with things like toilet training and feeding themselves and just every day stuff. I don’t know if they have in where you’re at but it’s worth looking into or asking about

@Tiffany I have asked people in my area and it’s 50/50. Some saying it won’t affect his chances getting into preschool while others say he won’t be able to until he’s potty trained because it’s not a daycare. But I do not tell everyone he is showing signs of being on the spectrum either since I’m just looking into the right school and everything to send him to. Many schools in my area are known for making a HUGE difference and isolating kids with special needs. This is also impacting my judgement in general especially since he does not talk to be able to tell us if something happens. I decided on a school, and thought about calling to ask them about the potty situation but I don’t want to seem weird since it may be too early.

I totally get that. My son is nonverbal and has been in speech for a year and it hasn’t been helping nearly as much as I hoped. But I’m in a great district for kids with special needs so I don’t feel like I have to hide his diagnosis

But that’s my biggest concern is him not being able to tell me what happens at school
