Small baby

Hiya, I’m currently 26+1 weeks pregnant, at my 20 week scan baby girl was measuring on the 5th centile and then I had another scan at 25 weeks and she’s dropped to the 4th centile, I’m getting slightly worried and feel a bit lost on what to do to get her weight up cause I’ve now been told I will probably be induced at 37 weeks if she doesn’t pick up on growing. Has anyone else been told they are having a small baby? Or have tips on how to get baby to put weight on😅 X

My baby had a massive growth spurt and went from 11th centile at 22 weeks and then was measured 24th centile at 38 weeks. I declined induction and she was born ten days late weighing 8lbs 3oz! They will keep an eye on her and make sure it’s not dropping anymore but otherwise I wouldn’t worry just yet xx

I got told measuring small and she’d be small baby she came out 9lbs 1 🥴 i think they’re so inaccurate with their measurements x

My baby is on the 4th percentile and once following the line they are still happy to induce early at 39 weeks. They won’t usually do earlier unless she drops off the line. For reference at 28 weeks I was 6th percentile, 30 weeks 13th percentile and 32 weeks 2nd percentile. Now at 34 she’s 4th so happier it’s a line follow rather than dropping off again.

There is literally nothing you can do, just monitor. Some babies are just smaller and the difference between 4th and 5th centile is frankly smaller than the measurement error. And don't even get me started on how inaccurate these measurements are in the first place! I find it somewhat counterintuitive that they immediately jump to induction as the best way to ensure that baby grows bigger is to let them gestate for longer. Obviously growth restriction is a thing but it happens for a reason, eg. because your placenta isn't working efficiently enough which I imagine would warrant additional tests. Remember that they may offer induction but you don't have to agree. Personally I would ask what would happen if you decided to wait. If they can't offer you a satisfactory answer I would refuse induction and wait.

NB. I had a slightly similar situation with my first though it wasn't growth related. I went in for reduced movements at around 38 weeks. It was at night so limited staffing. Someone got unhappy with a tiny glitch on the fetal ECG chart and they started insisting I get induced then and there "just in case". I asked what would happen if I waited until the morning to talk to a consulant and they couldn't give me a good enough answer. So I waited. In the morning, the consultant took one look at the ECG and told me to go home. Baby got another 3+ weeks in my womb as a result and her heart was completely fine. My point is, always ask about risks and benefits of both doing something and not doing it as well! X

the measurements aren’t super accurate, i was told i’d need an induction as baby was measuring 8lbs at 32 weeks, baby came at 37+6 weighing 6lbs1😂
