Running

I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old . Whilst strapping my 2 year old into car seat my 4 year old will run off up the road . I am then stuck as I need to finish strapping my 2 year old into seat to keep him safe but also my 4 year old is then also in danger running off on his own. If I put my 4 year old in car seat first then my 2 year old would run off My 2 year old walks most places so it would be unfair to now strap him in a pram . Any ideas ? How do you handle this situation ? I obviously shout out to not run off … I’ve had prior conversations before coming to this situation and I’ve tried bribes ☹️ EDIT: I’m just wanting to add we can get to the car and not even have the two doors open and he’s run off . So I guess my post is more about the running off than the car but it happens mostly at car time. What would you do in my situation. My 2 year old is heavy so running with him on my hip to chase after my 4 year old makes me too slow to catch him . Thank you

Can your 4yr old not climb into his own seat and wait for you to finish with your 2yr old? I have a 2yr old and 5yr old and he always climbs in and waits for me.

Open one door and only one door. Send both kids into the car. Then help them buckle as needed.

I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t just plonked my 4 year old on the roof a few times 🙄🙄😬😬

@Emily yes if he put his mind to it I’m sure lol but he’s running off just as we’re getting to the car or as I’ve just lifted up my 2 year old . I guess the cars not really the main issue it’s the running off but it seems to happen around car time

@Sarah thank you for replying . yes , he just seems to be running off thou as we get to the car so sometimes not even got the doors open and he’s off . I guess my post is more about running off then the car but it always happens around car time

@Philippa I actually think the “fun” of this would work but my car is too high with a roof box too . Thank you for suggesting this though

Put him to sit in the car while you strap his sibling in then strap him in

I completely understand what you mean. You let go of his hand to open the door and he’s off. (I don’t think some of the ladies above understand). Sounds like you need a child harness (?) I’m not joking. safety is important. Not to scare you but it only takes one accident.
