Did you tell children you were trying for another baby?

We didn’t tell our daughter who was 3 when we were trying until after our 12 week scan x

We didn’t tell our son who is 3 until after 20 weeks scan.

I personally won’t, if you’d rather not but want them to know you want another you could always ask the question “would you like a brother or sister one day”. Or you could wait until you are pregnant.
