I did it once at my 37 week appointment and have been rejecting them since. It was really uncomfortable and stressed me out.
I'm getting one next week and I'll be 40weeks
My obs started asking me at 37 weeks if I wanted to do a cervical check. They told me the results only matter if you’re being induced (which I’m not) and that they’re totally optional. I did one this week (@38 weeks) just because I came in prepared to do one without knowing all that. They check how dilated you are, how thinned your cervix is, and the position of the baby’s head.
I'm with a midwife and had one at 39 weeks. It was nice to find out how far along things are even if it doesn't correlate with when labor will happen.
I just got my first at 37+5 but only bc I asked. Going to be skipping this one this week but checking again 39+6 just bc I want not bc they are mandatory
I think it just depends on the OB my last ob started checking at 37 weeks but this time my ob said it’s not medically necessary unless you are being induced and that it increases risk of infection plus it’s not always a good indicator as some women can go from 0-10 in a day and some can stay at 4 for weeks! I will be getting checked Monday for my induction to see how much cervical ripening I need before the induction
I was first asked at 38 weeks and refused. Getting checked on my 40wk appointment next week but yes it depends on your OB and you can refuse it.
I was never checked at my appointments the first cervical check I had was at the hospital after my water broke and contractions had already started. The less times they check the less risk of infection
I didn’t get one until my 39 week appointment different OBs do different things. But it’s intrusive and medically not necessary because it doesn’t determine when you’ll go into labor. Rather just sees how the cervix could be changing in preparation for baby’s arrival. Some women s’ OBs start checking at 37 weeks others at different times. You’re not missing out on anything
