You are entitled to 12 months off with the last 3 being unpaid, were you given a return to work date when you arranged your maternity leave with them? The default is for employers to assume 12 months from when your mat leave starts, even though a lot of people will go back at the end of the 9 months smp. You need to give them 8 weeks notice if you want to change your return date so you need to have the discussion with them asap 😊
@Emily Hi Emily, I have notified HR that i will be returning at 9 months not 12 months.. and they was the ones who said they would have to speak to payroll and said my last SMP pay would be the 20th April. Just waiting for them to answer my question of my actual return date.
My SMP ends on May 18th, so my first day back on payroll is May 19th, but I’m not due back in work physically until the end of June due to accrued holiday (primary teacher in Scotland) x
Can you just pop into your work place for an informal chat? That’s what I did and arranged when I will return and how to use up my accrued holiday as our holiday restarts in October.
I would have thought it would be the 21st. My SMP leads me to the 12th May so I’m returning that week x
