Chewing fingers / fingers in mouth

We have noticed this last week my little boy sits there with his fingers in his mouth, he’s done it in the past a couple of times and we have ignored it, but it’s got worse this last week. Do I say anything or ignore it? I suppose it’s like sucking ur thumb, maybe gives the same comfort?

My daughter has just started doing this, I thought at first her teeth might be hurting but she says they don’t. I keep saying don’t do it but she continues and has started biting the shelves on her jumpers aswell

Mine has been doing this the last couple of weeks too. Sucks his fingers and bites his finger nails. If it’s not that, he’s sat picking his toes 🤢 Doesn’t matter how much I tell him to stop/take his fingers from his mouth/tell him it’s yucky

My sons recently started doing this too !

My boy has started chewing on his fingers and nails recently too. I found it really triggering when he started, as I've been a nail biter most of my life and finally managed to stop shortly before he was born. However I've found telling him not to do it just makes him do it even more. His nursery gave him a necklace with a chewy thing on it and they re-direct him towards chewing that which seems to work well. We've just got him one for home too. I've also found giving him a tangle toy to fiddle with when he's watching TV helps too, as that's when he does it the most.

Maxi had just started this, skin picking and biting/sucking his fingers but he also started chewing his clothes I’m not sure if it’s sensory issues or anxiety!? I’ve asked on SEN parent sites and they’ve said it sound like sensory issues but obviously maxi has the autism to back that!

@Laura he’s chewing his zip up hoodies too!! They are soaked by the time we get to nursery 🤦🏻‍♀️ I wasn’t sure if he had picked it up off another child at nursery. I’m trying to not say anything but if I’m sat with him il just gentle pull his hand out of his mouth and try to distract him.

@Roya yeah I asked if his teeth were hurting 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Steph yes I’m trying to not tell him and just gentle pull his hand out of his mouth. I think trying to distract him helps . . So random they have started doing this 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Rachel I’ve been advised to try and redirect maxi but it doesn’t work 😂 the skin picking is our biggest issue at the moment, every hang nail is picked and sore 😭 he rips them down to the knuckle and then they bleed x

My daughter has started doing this too. That and licking her whole hands 😂🙈. I just tell her to stop. She seems to do it when she’s focussed on something else so I’m not sure she’s noticing she’s doing it
