Early Intervention

Hello everyone! Question. How does early intervention process work? I took my daughter to her pediatrician who said she needs it. Dr said she needs speech therapy and occupational therapy. She’s 2 year old and doesn’t say 50 words. Don’t know if it might be lead to a Autism diagnosis in the future. She had a score of 5 at the M-Chart. At the office they gave me a number to call. Which I already called and then that place gave me another number. I called the 2nd number was told I will get a letter in 2 weeks. Is that all how it works? I’m a first time mom so not sure what the process is.

It just depends on the agency on how it goes. But generally they will contact you and then set up an appointment. I remember taking my son for appointment and he was assessed there. Once it was decided he needed services. We went on waiting list and then he was assigned a therapist and then eventually he went to a program. I can always say, early intervention is the best

Hi! My son started speech therapy, occupational therapy and Developmental Therapy at 20 weeks. With early intervention, they evaluate your kid. There is a developmental therapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist all evaluating your kid. They determine all the services your kid needs. Once your kid turns 3, they transfer you to your local school district where your kid continues to get the therapies they need

@Erika Did you have to wait a long time? Don’t know if I’m paranoid but I feel like the more I wait the more therapy she will need. Or the more behind development she will have.

@Wairimu What is developmental therapy?

it wasn’t a long wait .

@Erika thank you 🫶

We heard back from them pretty quick, I’d say call to check on your case if they take longer that a week.

@Karla This Thursday marks two weeks that I initially called. If I don’t get any call by then I’m calling Friday.
