Colostrum collection

Was given go ahead to start collecting at 37 weeks. I was looking into the haaka kit, and I am just confused. If I start at 37 weeks 3 times a day and say baby comes at 40 weeks, how am I supposed to collect it all. The syringes are 5ml I believe, and I’m sure most tries I won’t get 5, but how do I store it all? If I get 1ml in the morning, then put it in the fridge and try again a few hours later, do I need a new collection syringe or do I use the same one? Or do I collect a days worth in a larger cup and then pour all I got into the syringe? And can I use the same collection tube on both breasts? I’m very confused

Following the thread!

Collect directly into the collector, store in fridge for up to 24 hours and add to it as often as you want. No need to use a new one. After 24 hours since you began collecting, label and move to freezer.

Following too!

I would collect into one cup or bottle and use regular syringes to collect

Is it okay to add to the collector with new supply if the collector was frozen with yesterday’s collection? Just want to fill them and not sure how much I’ll get each day.

@Sam no because once it’s frozen it’s only good for so long. I’d refrigerate it for the day and collect all day if that’s ur plan. Then freeze!

@Haegon so I can add fresh colostrum to the refrigerated tube then freeze? Does not have to be chilled before adding?

@Courtney so It should all be the same temperature to avoid bacteria, technicallyyyyy. I honestly would dedicate time to express as much as you can and/or buy a pack of 100+ syringes online and freeze whatever it is u collect. I feel more comfortable collecting what I do in one sitting to avoid anything weird happening. Sterile syringes are pretty cheap on Amazon, that’s what I do! Bc even the smallest colostrum is gold. And it’s heavier ,more nutrient dense than milk so the smallest amount goes a long way !!

@Haegon thanks so much that’s what I’ll do!

Going to try this
