Makes me think of Grey’s Anatomy. Meredith’s mother and daughter are called Ellis.
I knew a girl ellis growing up I think now for children it’s more of a boys names
I know a girl called Elys - pronounced Ellis. Bit different
What about Elise? It very close.
Okay so I know it's not comparable, but I thought my cat (Merlin) was a boy, but it turned out she's a girl, but she's still called Merlin, and now it just feels like a girly name and suits her😂 I think you can definitely get away with Ellis as a Unisex name Ellis May has a nice ring to it
I don’t know any males called Ellis but know of two females with the name
It’s unisex imo, so if you want to call her Ellis, call her Ellis!
My little boy is Elis ☺️
Ellis works for a girl nicknames could be Ellie or Elle Ellis Adalyn Ellis Margot Ellis Faye Ellis Dorothy (ED nn Edie) Ellis Juniper Ellis Aurelia Ellis Kate Ellis Amity Ellis Vivienne (EV nn Evie) Ellis Jade
It's more a boy name to me, but that's probably because I've only ever known of boys with that name. Ellis Jade sounds nice as suggested above.
@Lauren we had this growing up... Unfortunately for Tom, the actually female cat not boy, her name also stuck 😂
@Steph I am a grey’s fan ☺️
@Lauren that actually happened to me. But my thought to be girl cat was called Jess so it still worked when we found out she was a boy 🤣
@Amy Thank you, that makes me feel better. I’m wondering if Ellis is more common for boys in the US and girls in the UK 🤔

@TAS I love some of these suggestions, thank you ☺️ Especially nn Edie and Evie
@Kalia I like Elise but partner isn’t keen. I don’t know why when it’s so similar!
My friend is called Ellis Charlotte and I think that’s lovely (UK based)
I’m a teacher and have had male and female students called Ellis - definitely unisex
I think of it more as an old fashioned girls name. I think its charming and beautiful 🥰
Deffo unisex xx
It was on my list for boys but it’s lovely for a girl too
Unisex like Alex, Charlie, Ashley etc Im from England so your comment earlier may have some merit as i do see it as more girly.
oh wow i’m surprised by the results i’ve only ever heard it for a girl! and yes i am also thinking of ellis grey and ellis grey
Funnily enough I (UK) have only heard it for boys, but I guess it boils down to who you have happened to cross paths with. Great news for the OP though that it is without doubt a unisex name 🥰
I’m UK and know one of each so it’s unisex to me, the girl is Ellis Jade which I think goes nicely
It sounds like Alice
Also in UK and only heard it used for boys. Alyssa / Alissa sounds a bit similar but more feminine.
Alice for a girl?
My son’s middle name is Elis but with a single l .

We have a little boy called Ellis. What about Elise for a girl? Other suggestions - Elle, Ellie or Eliza? 🩷
