Maternity pay question (UK)

Can anyone shed light on what this means - does this mean you cannot start the job pregnant to qualify for enhanced maternity pay (26 weeks plus 15 weeks is over 9 months) ‘To qualify for enhanced maternity pay, you must have been employed for six months up to and including the 15th week before the week in which your baby is due.’ Thanks in advance!

Yes, if you're pregnant when you start the job you will not be eligible

@Sophie 😭😭😭 thanks for clarifying x

Yep!

You can claim SMP which was £176 a week last year (might go up a few pounds in April) x

Yes, it just means you’ll only be eligible for SMP and not the company maternity

You won't be eligible for SMP if you start a new job already pregnant, but you should get Maternity Allowance, which is pretty much the same thing, just being paid not via your employer. You can find out more about what you're eligible by filling in this questionnaire: https://www.gov.uk/maternity-paternity-pay-leave

It'll be MA, not SMP if you're already pregnant when starting a job.

I should have said MA not SMP glad the girls corrected it xx

Sorry! I too meant MA not SMP 🤦🏻‍♀️
