Any mamas need stitches the first time and not the second? šŸ™‚ Am I delusional lol

With my first, my OB was concerned Iā€™d tear as I was pushing, so he asked if he could make a teeny tiny sideways incision to ensure I didnā€™t tear, he said recovering from a planned clean tiny incision would be 10x times easier than recovering from a spontaneous tear (especially had it of been in multiple directions etc). So I said yes absolutely, and he was right! Baby came out on the next push easy, no additional tearing, just that one minor stitch. It was pretty brutal pain for about 3 days(mainly bc Iā€™m a dummy that declined pain meds lol), and then after 10 days I was totally good as new. This time, they said itā€™s much more rare to tear with your second baby because your muscles and skin all have memory/elasticity from before, etc. My OB basically ā€œassured meā€ that I would NOT tear or need a single stitch this time and that pushing would be significantly shorter and easier. Hearing this made me soooooo happy but idk if thatā€™s just delusionalā€¦ šŸ˜‚ It wasnā€™t the end of the world, but I would LOVE to not have to go through that again!!!

Didn't need them the 1st. Needed tons the 2nd (internal and external - all the way around and almost hole to hole! Terrible in a super fast delivery!). Didn't need them the 3rd time! It is totally dependent on how your delivery goes and the position of baby! I highly recommend NOT doing an episiotomy! You can (and usually do!) Still tear in other areas! Letting your body stretch on its own is best. A good doctor will help massage and gently stretch where needed, as needed, when baby is coming through.

And there are absolutely zero guarantees on how a labor and delivery, as well as recovery will go. Each pregnancy is totally it's own. Anyone who told me for sure one way or another, I'd immediately question. But that's just me.

@Ashley Yeah so in my case it wasnā€™t like a full on true episiotomy and it was to the side not down..he saw that I was giving up on pushing, I wasnā€™t doing the right techniques anymore bc I was too tired, I was straining, etc, I just couldnā€™t give anymore, and he basically told me, he is SO close to being out and by the looks of it he thought I was going to tear *severely* without help, so he said if I was okay with it he would do the tiniest cut (when I say tiny I mean I couldnā€™t even see it after, it was SO small) and he was 100% right, baby came out so easily on the next push, that tiny space was all he needed, and I didnā€™t tear anywhere.. So it wasnā€™t so much that baby wouldnā€™t have fit or anything, it was more that I full blown had no more energy to push lol šŸ™ƒ My bff ripped hole to hole and 3 other directions.. So Iā€™m SUPER happy with my decision bc my recovery was AMAZING comparatively- I just would loooove to not have to deal with either circumstance this second time around šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

@Abby, you might not! It's so individual to each delivery! You can look up perineum massage for labor and delivery and get some ideas there. Also, working on your pelvic floor strength will help. Lots of kegals. At the end of the day, it's just luck of the draw!
