Potty, waiting until it's too late

If I put her on the potty ignoring her insisting she doesn't need to go we can get through the day with no accidents, if I let her tell me when she needs to go we can end up with 3 changes of clothes before lunch, she just won't stop what she's doing & go until she's already started weeing. That's normal right?

How old is little one? I do think part of it is the little ones learning when they need a wee, and learning how to hold in a wee. Depending on age I'd maybe wait a month or so and come back to it in the spring, when she can be more naked as we found that helped a lot. We tried once, had a 6 week break and the next time we tried she was so much better at holding her wees and poos and knowing when to go. Still a lot of accidents though in the early stages but (and occasionally now when shes too zoned into playing) but it just seemed to click after a few days the second time. Ours was 2 1/2 when she learned

@Kerry my March 2022 baby, so nearly 3. She can hold over 2 hours & I'm convinced she has awareness of when she needs to go, she starts to get figity & touch her crotch, but she won't tell me or go to the potty until she's so bursting she's already done a dribble. I noticed the signs this morning & put her on the potty & she did a wee just fine. If I'd have asked her she would have told me no & wet herself.

@Susan oh that does sound like she's ready but she just loves playing so much! That's so frustrating. Good luck

They have to be reminded mainly due to them. Not wanting to stop playing, but if you says 'let's try go for a pee then we can play again' keep it consistent and she should get the hang of it x

@Jen she will always say no though. She's ok if I make her go, but she won't tell me she needs to go until she's wet herself or there's already a dribble in her pants. There was one incident recently, she hadn't pooed in a couple of days & wanted to hide behind the rocking chair, a favourite pooing place. I was nervous & tried to get her to sit on the potty, she insisted she didn't need to then sat & wet herself behind the rocking chair. Since then I've given up on her telling me & just made her go try at likely intervals.

Mine needs reminders. The issue with mine is that she can hold for hours. She has held it 5 or 6 hours before. I don't want to ask too much because she needs to learn to ask but sometimes I think it's too long and I have to convince her to go.
