Nipple fissure, milk blebs and engorgement

I’m ready to give up. I have one nipple which is severely cracked and it’s agony to feed from and I’ve tried everything to get it to heal. My boobs are constantly engorged which is making everything 10 times worse and a milk bleb on the other so baby is struggling to fully drain. I’m 2.5 weeks into BF and so ready to give up I thought it would have settled out by now 😣

Bless you! It's so hard at the beginning! Are you able to pump at all to help the engorgement? It should get better as baby's sucking gets stronger. You could also try silver nipple shields, they were a life saver and stops your nipples from rubbing on fabric and put some breast milk in them to help speed up healing x

My left boob has not been latched onto for the past few days because of a crack (I thought a chunk had come out at first 😅) but I have been pumping daily to help engorgement. Though I’ve also just remembered I do have MAM nipple shields so that might help protect it now it’s healing nicely… I’ve used Lansinoh nipple gel, silver shields, but mostly allowing some breast milk to go over my nipple and letting it air when I can.

I am so sorry! at the start it can be extremely difficult and painful.. have you checked for tongue tie? if it’s that painful and your baby cannot take everything and you have engorgement as a consequence, it could be that or a wrong latch. In our case it was a tongue tie problem. I wish you to feel better soon! I’ve been close to give up so many times at the beginning.. it can be a real nightmare until it gets so much better

@Hannah I think I might give pumping a go but just didn’t want baby to get used to a bottle- it’s so hard isn’t it 🥲

You can always pump and store your milk in the freezer so you won't have the worry about a bottle xx

Also most electric pumps have a nipple measurer and different sizes xx

after a week or so I didn’t have pain anymore 🙏🏼 at least that worked well
