Measuring big

Hello everyone, I had a midwife appointment yesterday, and she mentioned that I was measuring big. I'm currently 30 weeks, but my belly is measuring at 32 weeks. She booked me for a scan to check on things. Two weeks ago, I had a private scan, and the baby was measuring fine, following the growth chart as expected. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar and if you could share your experience.

I've just come from a growth scan for the opposite reason. Midwife was saying I was measuring small or growth had dropped. Scan today shows everything is fine and she's on 88th percentile 😅 I just don't think the tape is a very accurate way of measuring

Physically measuring your belly isn't super accurate!! With my first I consistently measured big, she was 75th centile so not that huge. Babys position, your own body, and even the midwife measuring can affect the accuracy x

I’m exactly the same, she didn’t book me for a scan but said if wasn’t already having a GD test she’d book me for one. I was neg for GD and have a scan to check my placenta this week anyway. It’s nothing to worry about, my measurements last pregnancy were all over the shop and great that you’ll have another scan for some reassurance! X

It still baffles me that they use a paper measuring tape to measure the bump/ baby😅

Omg you guys, I feel so much better after your messages. They didn’t offer me the GD test and I started making scenarios on my head 🤣 I didn’t have this situation with my first one so I was a bit worried when she told me yesterday.

Honestly it’s all a bit Victorian times isn’t it. Last pregnancy she kept asking me where my pubic bone was to measure from.. not sure I could identify that when I wasn’t 33 weeks preggo tbh! Good luck at the scan x

I had a measurement that was less than 10th centile then scan showed 71st. Then had another measurement at 66th centile and they've sent me for another scan today just in case baby is actually a monster....so the moral of the story is that nobody knows I guess!

I never take these measurements on when I'm measured. I have had 2 done by the exact same midwife and between each measurement I noticed she measured differently, almost adding an extra cm on this last time. How can that possibly accurate? I understand that it's likely the only way they can get an idea if there's anything significantly concerning like maybe 5+ cm difference, but I wouldn't be concerned about a 2 cm difference. Even scan measurements aren't always accurate, with some babies being born smaller/larger than anticipated because they measured small/large on the scan. Feels a bit intrusive to the normal process in my opinion, but I think it's probably best for those who may be experiencing higher risk pregnancies with things like GD that can lead to bigger babies, or someone measuring significantly smaller than a previous measurement etc.

I've not had my midwife appointment yet but I've been in hospital a lot recently. I was in hospital Thursday when I was 32 weeks and was measuring 36 weeks!! But they've done nothing about it? No scan nothing so god knows x
