Birth control ! Bl? What r we doing !

Ladies, especially breastfeeding ladies what are we doing about birth control . I panic requested ParaguaRD form my OB due to the no hormone factor but after research I’m no longer wanting it (I already had terrible cramps and bleeding and not looking to make it worse) But now I’m debating what method to do that is less likely to cause side effects like nausea /weight gain or worse anxiety. Most importantly I DONT WANT MY MILK SUPPLY AFFECTED. Any recommendations? What have y’all done? FYI I’ve had depo and Nexaplanon before. Depot is a hell no and I gained 30 pounds on Nexaplanon and had terrible anxiety. I used the patch in high school but google says that and Nexaplanon is known to affect supply but Ik everyone’s different so I’m lost

I'm personally done with kids so my tube's are being removed monday

So my dr told me I needed a progesterone only medicine. That estrogen affects the supply and they don’t recommend until baby is eating solids. So it’s mini pill (which has to be taken at the same exact time everyday to work), the implant (in the arm), or a specific iud. I’m doing the implant so I don’t have to remember to take it at the same time. It’s also supposed to help with heavy bleeding and all that. It is also less likely to cause more anxiety/depression (estrogen is what does that). I’m not sure about weight gain.

I got the mirena IUD. It doesn’t have the estrogen which is linked to lowering supply in some women. I hate having to remember to take pills and I don’t have time to so I got the IUD so I don’t have to remember to do anything haha

So last time, I was on the progesterone only pill, and it made me mad at my husband, like I hated him. I was on it for about 8 months before we realized that's what the problem was, and it wasn't just postpartum stuff. This time, we are just using condoms and pull out (we've done this before very successfully, but you have to have a partner who can handle it and knows when to pull out). I'm thinking about getting a diaphragm, but I'm concerned about the spermicide gel having a negative effect on my body. So we'll see what we end up doing.

I EBF and just had the mirena iud inserted the other week. Haven’t noticed any dips in my supply, but I’m still keeping an eye out. The way my OB explained it is that the hormones are localized to your uterus. IF for some bizarre reason it affects supply, they’ll take it out and supply should go back to normal ?? I’ve had paragaurd in the past and can’t recommend LESS. The cramps it gives are horrendous.

I, personally have always stuck with the Mirena IUD. I had it since I was a teenager and I’m now in my mid 20’s. I went back on it at my 6 week’s appointment (February 10th). I also was told it’s good for 8 years now when before, it was 5-6 years. I’m combo feeding (breastmilk + formula).

I recommend the natural cycles app. It’s one of the few fda approved non hormonal methods. I struggle with BC and this has worked for me

We have 2 children and that's all we want so my partner is getting the snip ✂️

I haven't had sex, so 100% abstinence lol😅🤣. I'm mad at him and still don't feel like it so he's getting noneofthat

I’m on the Slynd pill which is progesterone only, so it doesn’t have an effect on milk supply

@Boo I’ve used spermicide gel before, in my personal experience my husband and I didn’t have any reactions to it and it definitely prevented more babies until we were ready for our second

@Tara thanks I appreciate your input

I was told nexplanon, copper IUD, and mini pill are the only safe options for breastfeeding. Basically you want a low dose hormone or no hormone birth control.

@Joye totally get it

@Ivy yeah I’m concerned I won’t take the pill correctly. . I’m between Nexaplanon and the Mirena IUD. Only thing that scares me about the Mirena is BF women have higher risk of it becoming embedded in the uterus

@Diana I fell that haha! I can barely remember to take a vitamin so the pills aren’t gonna work for me effectively 😂 I’m just scared about something sitting in my uterus and potentially becoming embedded:( you hear those horror stories ya know

@Boo understandable lol 1st trimester made me hate mine , which is why I need birth control hahahaaha

@Hannah omg thank you!! I heard that about the paraglide which is why I’m calling this morning to cancel the order. I already have bad cramps I don’t need any assistance in that department 😂 did you notice any cramping with the Mirena so far ? Or side effects?

@Kourtney Netter I was just starting my period when I got it and it definitely exacerbated the bleeding (but no cramps at all.) I haven’t noticed any side effects with the mirena so I’m happy :)

@Kourtney Netter yeah those are probably your best bet. I have a heart shaped uterus so I can’t do iuds or that’s the way I would go

I had the Paragard for 10 years before ttc, and had zero issues with my cycle. I’m getting it again. Other than the initial “adjustment period”, which I attribute to having been on & off hormonal birth control the first time, it never gave me any trouble. Curious how this time will be.
