Should I be worried about my little boys development?

So my little one goes to nursery a few mornings a week and enjoys his time there. However he’s just turned 2 and they always do different activities eg painting, playing with shaving foam and play dough. They put photos up nearly everyday, when they have put photos up of his room, he doesn’t seem to be doing an activity like other children and is just in the background. I can’t help think he’s behind for his age or I haven’t done enough at home to help with his development. Should I be asking the nursery if he’s doing okay?

My daughter is the same she’s just not interested in that stuff she likes to do her own thing and doesn’t like any form of structured play, if I tried painting with her the ceiling would be covered in paint I think 😂

You definitely can ask nursery, ours does reviews every now and again. But I wouldn't stress, not joining in with everything doesn't mean anything is wrong. They might just be really rubbish at pictures, the fact they're sending group pictures rather than just of your individual child makes me think maybe they just think oh crap we need a pic of the activity and don't consider what child is doing what. Do you have an end of day debrief at handover? They should cover what he's been doing in that and I'm sure would raise any major concerns.

@Lauryne ah right that reassures me quite a bit then! He will scribble a bit on some paper with a pen lol. Oh dear haha. I think our dog would end up been painted haha

@Rachel yeah I have met his key worker so when I see her next I might ask her. Yeah he does play with the toys by the sounds of it. Yeah that’s true. Yeah he has a daily diary of what he’s done etc.

Yes best to chat to the Nursey as they will give you the best insight - a photo only captures one moment in time and you don’t no what’s happening either side. Also he’s now at Nursey so will be getting a lot from that even if it’s not an immediate thing you notice. My son is at Nursey 4 days a week and his speech is excellent / we speak to him a lot but my friends little girl at at the same Nursey and she’s the same so have to give Nursey some credit !

@Jade yeah I just worry that he’s not developing properly, or at the level he should be for his age. Am sure he will be and I don’t doubt that the nursery staff aren’t doing a great job.

My child is the same . All other kids are jumping, dancing, moving , doing activities but he wants to be on his own. I wonder the same sometimes . But I feel this is more of their nature rather than any lag in development

Some kids just like to keep themselves busy and prefer other activities. My son will sit for ages doing the same thing over and over. Completely in his own little world. At this age they don't really care about other children and just do their thing. If they're interested they'll join in

@Shivi yeah I know what you mean, he doesn’t get upset been around other children or adults, so that’s good

@Patricia yeah he will go up to the other children but might not play directly with them.
