My 2.5 year old is still on baby food and refuses to let me feed him anything else.

He was open to trying some stuff like sucking on fruits and chewing baby puffs when he was a baby but then one day just stoped. Now Seems like he prefers only smooth baby food with predictable sweet taste like anything with banana so he can just swallow it. He doesn’t have any issues because we got everything checked. He was a bit delayed with some of his milestones but seems to have caught up with everything and is doing great in every other aspect except the food. At this point I am trying to get the nutrition in him but I am failing miserably at getting him to chew on any baby puffs or regular food. He says no to candies and juices too. I am at my wits ends! Anyone else dealing with similar issues despite trying everything under the sun?

This sounds rough mama. Have you tried a smoothie? You can adjust it with more or less of anything and even try to add veggies. Sometimes when my girl is teething she’ll only want soft foods. What about yogurt? I’d say try to slowly add texture back in see how he does

I am feeding yogurts and like making purées so getting nutrition in him as much as I can and giving him vitamins. But I am worried he is not eating food like the rest of the kids. Makes our life more difficult too because I have to carry puree jars everywhere. And I am worried for him too as to why he is rejecting it all.

I’d just slowly add more texture to food. From puree to mashed to chunky to thicker to full normal. It may be a slow process but that’s my suggestion.

Have you talked to the pediatrician about food therapy?

I would look into a feeding therapist; they’d be able to give you strategies to help you both.

I tried adding more texture and he doesn’t let me go past the stage two kind of texture. He refused to eat it and just fights and spits it all out or gags when he tries to swallow it. I don’t know for some reason he refuses to chew the food. Although he chews ok every other non edible items. I did try the feeding therapist and using their strategies but so far I Jane only gotten as far as to get him to go from stage 1 to stage 2 sometimes and to not be afraid of touching food. Earlier he would run at the sight of food but now he holds the fruits and vegetables and plays with them. He is interested in seeing and touching his finger to what we eat but never lets us take it close or his mouth and doesn’t try to taste it either. I am just getting frustrated at this point because I am trying everything I see online or hear from people but for some reason my kid fails all my attempts.

Did they happen to mention if he may have ARFID? Im sorry, I’m sure this is super stressful. My son’s diet is very limited but I can’t imagine not eating anything

Nope nobody mentioned it but I do wonder if he may have that or like texture sensory issue but either way that would require therapy right? I am doing that. Others tell me to keep doing what you are doing and maybe one day he will just get better as he is older and start trying some of the things maybe.

If you all have any different strategies then please do recommend so I can try those too
