Constipation

Hi- after switching to whole milk my LO has been constipated. Still having a BM every day but it’s very hard and pellet like and sometimes he is straining a lot and seems uncomfy from how hard it is to get out. Pediatrician said it was normal for a couple weeks? How long should I wait it out before switching to plant based milk? It’s been atleast 2 weeks if not 3 of whole milk and constipation so it’s definitely due to that but Wondering how long of a transition period with constipation is “normal”?

I mixed my whole milk with formula with my little one. It took about a month to fully transition to just whole milk. Constipation is def normal

How much milk are you giving him each day? My pediatrician said to limit it to 16-24 oz milk/day to prevent constipation. My daughter was drinking 30-34 oz/day of formula so I had to decrease her overall consumption. (I supplemented with water but still decrease the overall milk amt relative to formula)

My LO Iis experiencing the same thing a month in free turning one last month. He poops maybe twice a day and it’s still hard for him to push but honestly I could limit his ounces like Elizabeth said. He drinks soo much milk and eat so much I thought it was a combination of him eating more food and milk that’s causing him to be constipated

@Elizabeth we’re not doing more than 20-24

@Aileen yah it took us like maybe 10 days of mixing. We didn’t go cold turkey. But now it’s been about 2 weeks of being totally on whole milk and he still seems very uncomfy

@josephine oh mine was over a month! I started right at 12 months and he’s almost 14 months and finally his body is starting to get used to whole milk by itself! I also pair it with lots of fiber so he runs how’s bowels without any issues (mangos, kiwi, prune juice etc)

We’re on the same boat. Pediatrician said to limit bananas and dairy/milk to 16oz a day. If that doesn’t work, switch to lactaid. Foods like papaya, prune, and pear have been helping her in the meantime.
