@Niya no not yet. Im a ftm so im not sure when to start, but the doctor said we could start now. 🤷♀️
I’m so surprised the doctor said that! My daughters’ doctor said we should wait until my baby can sit up right
@Niya i was surprised too. He was saying we could try to cut out breastmilk when he turned 9 months. And start baby foods at 4months.
Wow I was told that the benefit of breast milk is less impactful at 2 years old so I can continue to at least 12 months. Definitely get a second opinion from a pediatrician because your doctor is providing very suspicious advice.
@Niya i was planning on it. I have to wait a few weeks due to no opening at the moment. Out of curiosity should i just start when he starts sitting?
Sounds like an old school doctor. Current recommendations are for around 6 months. Baby should be able to sit upright unassisted for short periods, have good head control, bringing toys to their mouth, and show interest in food. Those are the signs baby is ready.
With my first daughter we started baby food at 4 and a half months but she was already trying to sit unassisted, could hold her head up on her own completely, and was bringing toys to her mouth. With our second, I think we’re going to wait until 5 or 6 months of age because she isn’t showing any signs of being ready
Our pediatrician gave us okay to start with purée and baby food so we started at 4 months. My son is trying to sit up on his own and is holding his head straight. He’s been staring at us eat and at our food and sometimes he even wants to grab it from my fork lol he is bringing tous to his mouth too. He loves sweet potato puree
If the pediatrician says it is okay, then you can go ahead and start only if your baby seems to be ready as mentioned above. A baby is ready when they stare at you eat and stare at the food and open their mouths, my baby would be very into my food and she would even move her mouth as in if she had food in her mouth so we have been doing one meal a day which is puree food. Baby needs to have good head control and sit upright. My baby was showing signs way earlier but until her appointment the pediatrician talked about it and said it was fine to start. My baby did not seem happy as much with just her formula anymore. Now she is so happy and so far it is going great :) you don’t have to fully feed the baby until full, just try little by little introducing it.
My mom called me today and basically told me that I can start introducing my son to foods and flavors now. I’m one of 5 of her children. She said that with all of us she would have us taste foods at around 3 months I was like “wait what?? Isn’t that too soon?” And she’s said no (idk tho😂) my point is, she said if she was eating some kind of soup, she’s feed us a droplet of it to basically get our digestive system to be able to process it so when she did feed us solids months later, our digestive system wouldn’t react bad and give us stomach aches, diarrhea etc. I’m also a FTM and my son just turned 4 months. I was going to wait until he started teething to introduce food to him but this SORTA made sense? I’m still on the fence . I did a little bit of research and for the most part You can start introducing baby food (solid foods) when your baby is around 6 months old.
Signs that your baby is ready for solids is Good head and neck control (can sit upright with minimal support), Loss of the tongue-thrust reflex (doesn’t automatically push food out with their tongue), Shows interest in food (watches you eat, reaches for food, or opens mouth when offered food), Can close mouth around a spoon and swallow food instead of spitting it out
With my first we started him on baby oatmeal mixed with breastmilk (or formula if you're using that) to get him used to thicker texture and then we slowly tried other purees every once in a while. Then at 6 months leaned more towards baby led weaning.
My little girl can sit up right on the couch for a few minutes and she’s 4 months in like 10 days.. my doctor said the same thing though, that we could start purées at around 4 months if we are comfortable and she can sit up with assistance.
I waited until my son sat up unsupported at 5 months

My pediatrician just said the same thing! But I said “no mam’ won’t be doing that” 🤨
@Niya my doctor told me the same!!!! I'm waiting till my son can sit up on his own without hunching over
We're starting at 4 months as recommended by our pediatrician and specialist because our girl has severe allergies and they want us to introduce things slowly. they also told us the younger they're introduced to certain foods the less likely the chance they'll be allergic to it
@Gabby it's very beneficial to breast feed till Atleast two and it's amazing how many Dr's try to discourage such natural feeding at a younger age. Keep up the breastfeeding benefit baby more.
Wow 4 months is too soon? Is your baby already sitting up?
