@Sorrel Yeah, that’s definitely one of the darker ones.
My boyfriend is constantly trying to tell me the negative backstory of things. I do my best to ignore him. At this point I would be curious to find out what doesn't have a negative original story.
apparently ring around the rosy is about the plague
oh wait yes i just saw @Sorrel comment

im going down a rabbit hole
this is reminding me of the subliminal messaging stuff in disney movies
Yes! I was just trying to figure out what Miss Mary Mack is about. My daughter's name is Mary and last name includes -mack. First the NICU nurses and now teachers sing it at her.
It seems that in any culture, the origin of children's nursery rhymes are quite sinister. I grew up in France and the French ones are terrible , like there is one about a green mouse that get caught , the origin is a French soldier that got torture during the Vendée war in France. Others have explicit lyrics that I never pay attention until I sing them with my son. Like the one with a shepherd that stab his kitten for being naughty and confesses it to a priest 😅
Yea I started reading about all the dark meanings behind nursery rhymes when I had my daughter..i was singing to her one day and as I was saying the words I was like huh that sounds weird I wonder what the song is about..started looking them up and after that I stopped singing them to my daughter..why in the world are they all so dark 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
@Jennifer there’s a lady on tiktok her name is Mackenzie something, she speaks about the origins of this one.
@Izzy thanks I'll try to find it!
Yeah always find stuff like that interesting. I remember being shocked about ‘ring a ring a roses’ - basically plague rashes and death 😵 not the most kid friendly song for the playground! 😅
