Car seat for a hatchback?!

My mum will be having my little girl one day a week after her 1st birthday, and she’s mentioned getting a car seat to pop out with her to different places. She has a hatchback Corsa, and I’ve no idea how she’s going to get her in and out of the car without doing her back in. We’d like my daughter to stay rear facing, does anyone have any suggestions other than a new 5 door car? 🤣 Do 360 bases work well in these situations? Help! She’ll be so sad if we say she can’t realistically do car journeys Edit: please no suggestions for putting the seat in the front, I’ve spoken my mum and she has said she wouldn’t be happy driving with the seat in the front!

can she not put her in the front? Given her airbags can be turned off? That’ll be so easy for your mum x

Put her in the front, rear facing with airbags off, as suggested above x

Hmm is that not more dangerous though being in the front for a collision? (Even with airbags off)

No, you could argue that you never know where the collision will hit so it’s not safe anywhere in the car xx

360 car seats work well in pretty much every car - I had one in my fiat 500 (3 door car) a few years ago, was a tight squeeze initially to get it through the gap of the seat and door but was great for getting her in and out (rear facing) - I would put the car seat forwarding facing and sit on the back of the front sit whilst I strapped her in, then spin her to rear facing :) I then moved it into my Kia Rio which was hatchback and again great for getting in and out. Having the spin means less pressure on your back and arms getting in and out the car. Whereas one that is fitted rear really does kill your back xxx

It’s fine for her to be in the front especially as it’s only one day a week. As mentioned above car could get hit at any angle. She would still be facing rear and the seat would be secured so she wouldn’t be able to fly off the seat. She would be the same impact as if she sat at the back.

I’ve spoken to my mum and she’d rather not drive with her in the front - so back to it! Any other suggestions for seats in the back?

A lot of spin seats don’t actually spin due to the ‘door’ next to the car seat being too narrow. Can you go and try any seats out anywhere locally? I’d look at the Britax swingfix M plus and avionaut sky to help the space issues but the Britax may not spin and the sky is rear facing only x
