Questions about formula

I was finally taken seriously by a GP (🥳) who diagnosed our little girl with non IgE cow's milk allergy with a possibility of lactose intolerance on top of it. It seems that we'll be prescribed nutramigen for her but I've seen a lot of posts saying babies refuse the formula because it doesn't taste nice. My baby is ebf and I've cut dairy out of my diet but because of the potential lactose intolerance, her GP wants me to cut out one feed a day and give specialist formula to lessen the load on her gut of having to deal with the lactose in my breastmilk. Our baby started refusing bottles when she was around 3 months old (she's now 7 months) and we haven't been able to get her to latch onto one since. She'll either not even open her mouth or use it as a teether and just chew on it. I'll have to get her used to bottles again for when she starts nursery in a couple of months, but that's a whole different post. I'm just concerned that if she does latch onto a bottle again but it tastes horrible, that it will seal the deal and she'll never latch. I've seen other people recommend pepti 1 instead. Is that interchangeable with nutramigen or is that for something else? I'd be happy to buy it without a prescription since we won't be using much at all but just not sure what the difference is. Also is pepti 2 just their version of follow on milk?

You can add vanilla extract (alcohol free)to the milk to make it taste nicer the first couple of days to get them used to it. Pepti 1 still have cows milk in it so I don’t know if you’d be able to use it x

@Julia ah okay, that's really good to know, thank you!

I pumped breast milk and blended bottles, gradually increasing the proportion of formula. Eg. 4oz breastmilk 1oz formula, then 3:2, 2:3, 1:4 It gave her chance to get used to the flavour x

@Anna that's brilliant, thank you! I'll try that

Both nutramigen and aptamil pepti 1 both have Cowes milk protein in them still it's just much more broken down so it goes undetected in there body. Aptamil pepti smells horrible so I can't imagine it taste any better then nutramigen. If u do use a little bit of vanilla extract in bottles to make it taste better make sure u get alcohol free some have alcohol in them. And yes Aptamil pepti 2 is just the follow on version that is used for 6 months plus. The only formula that is Cowes milk protein free and lactuose free is neocate and enfamil x

@Willow thank you so much for explaining all of that!
