ADHD in two year old?

So for context, I was just diagnosed with combined ADHD in October 2024, and she said I have some autistic traits too that I should seek diagnosis for if my stimulants don’t rule out those traits after some time. This obviously makes me hyper vigilant of those around me, both family that have come before me/my partner, extended family and now my kids. My 9 month old I obviously don’t look at in this manner yet as he’s hitting his milestones, but I have considered my 2 year old daughter as possibly having some sort of neurodiversity and most likely ADHD. She spends the majority of the day either talking or signing the same songs, she has to get out of her chair the second she finishes her meal, she is constantly bouncing and climbing and makes silly mistakes for somethings that she would usually know. She also has a habit when she’s trying to say something as quick as her mind is obviously racing, she adds in gibberish syllables until her mouth catches up with her brain. I see a lot of myself in her, so I’m wondering how much of it is normal toddler behaviour and what could be ADHD? I want to be as attentive to her needs as possible as I would like to be the support for her that I didn’t have growing up.

Show your support

I think ADHD really starts to show in school, when more structure and expectations are introduced, and I don't think there's much you can do to support them while they're preschoolers, especially while they're still hitting all their milestones! I'm in a similar situation and have notified nursery just to be aware of it, but the best thing we can do for now is give our little ones the tools to understand and regulate their emotions. Songs about feelings (I love Mama Nous and Singing Mamas!) and breathing exercises and plenty of exercises. It's good for all kids, regardless of neuro divergence!

My daughter started going to a montessori nursery just when she turned 2. Within 3 months they told us they think she has adhd. She is now 3. They've been giving herel 131 support from day one and said the more support you give her before she turns 3, the more you can narrow the gap. What exactly they do with her at school, I don't know, but she has 4 therapists she sees 3x per week. Now she is 3 and she has changed soooooo much! There's a HUGE difference in her. So I'd say the sooner you notice and get her the right help, the better for her. She is definitely combined adhd and copy paste little me. She can be hyper focused at times but mostly, all the time, hyperactive to the extreme.

She cannot focus in large groups, gets overwhelmed quickly, emotional dysregulation, goes bat shit at the smallest things, can't accept no, can't accept endings, will only do what she wants to do when she wants to do it.. there's more but I can't remember now. Hope this helps. They won't diagnose till 6 but the more you notice now AND VERY IMOORTANT START TRACKING!! the easier it will be once you go to your GP. We applied for a peadreatric assessment last year April and we are still waiting for the appointment. So get in there now already! Make specific notes of her and her behaviours. I wish you luck!

Thank you @Ghitta so helpful to have this perspective and learn that early support is helping!
