Baby led vs Spoon feeding.

I know there’s been research to say baby led weaning is the way forward and when my LO was between 6-12 months I embraced it fully. Now he’s 3 he’s a terrible eater. He always wants to use his hands, plays with his food, rarely likes everything i offer from one day to the next so rarely finishes a meal and no joke takes him 30-40 mins to finish a meal! It’s torture some days! With my eldest, I spoon fed from 5 month- 18 months (ish) then when he could use utensils he fed him self. He is an amazing eater! Loves all food and acted the complete opposite to how my 3 year old acts. I know no 2 kids are the same but I’m wonder on if there’s any connection with the weaning styles? Anyone shed any light?

My son was mainly baby led I would help on the odd occasion and I basically feed him at every meal now or he would just not eat. He’s also really fussy about being clean while eating and doesn’t like dirty hands or face and I made a point of not fussing over these kind of things when he was younger 🫣🤷‍♀️

@Rachel oh bless you. That’s a shame. The whole baby led weaning I found a pain, it’s so messy, time consuming and just ridiculous but I did it cos that’s what I was told was best. X

I spoon fed because I couldn't do with the mess and faffing of BLW to be honest... I have 3 good eaters though, both in terms of table manners and food choices 😊

I used mostly used baby led weaning with both of mine. I would give pre loaded spoons of things like yogurt. My November 2021 baby now uses a fork and spoon brilliantly and is beginning to use a knife. She feeds herself at every meal and rarely spills anything on herself anymore. So baby led weaning worked wonders for us.
