No Judgment Zone - My BF Journey

I was so nervous about breastfeeding after hearing and reading so many stories about how hard it was. As much as I wanted to breastfeed I mentally prepared myself to formula feed. No one should feel guilty for how they nourish their baby. In tandem I did my research, took some courses (highly recommend virtual courses from Aeroflow), met with a lactation consultant, and listened to “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding” on Audible. When I was tired and frustrated I remembered my breastfeeding affirmations and carried on. When I wanted to give up, I got support. And it got easier. I’m not an expert and not every baby is the same. It’s a little daunting to think about how much more time there is to reach our goal (12m) but it’s moments like this…looking down at a full smiling face… milk spraying after a sudden unlatch… grateful gazes… and skin to skin naps…. That I know I will cherish this experience for a lifetime. No judgement for mamas that choose to formula feed & best of luck to all the breastfeeding mamas out there ! If you’re feeling called to share your story I would love to hear ! 💖 Cheers 🍼

Amazing story and wishing you all the best on your journey. I had my first in August 2021, he's 3.5 years now. When he was born he wouldn't latch after a day they tried formula, he wouldn't swallow and he ended up in NICU he was fed by the tube and I was able to pump and they gave him breast milk through the tube. After 5 days he latched! We were discharged. Our journey went fairly smoothly. When he was around 2 years I tried to start some gentle weaning. I fell pregnant. I was hoping he would stop but he never did! He's still breastfeeding now and I'm also breastfeeding my 9 month old ❤️

@Leanne Oh my goodness YOUR story is truly amazing ! Do you only breastfeed or also pump/bottle feed? How often does the older one breastfeed? I’m getting ready to go back to work so I’m a little nervous about the transition and staying strong with breastfeeding but then I think about the fact that he should be eating solids soon so maybe I’m making it out to be harder then I think ?

Brilliant story it really can be tough but equally as rewarding! We are 2.5 years into our breastfeeding journey and 10 and a bit months into our tandem feeding journey. I was hoping my eldest would have weaned by now but we’re still going strong! It’s amazing to see the bond they have together through feeding and also the bond we have as mum and daughters from all of the hours we’ve spent latched and joined at the boob, the long nights and long days are worth every single amazing moment. 🤍

@E honestly hearing both of these stories gives me hope that we can exceed the 12m goal!! Did you ever go through transitions that made it more difficult to breastfeed ?

@Lexus one thing I have done and still do is take each day at a time. You can have a plan, but babies have their own minds and sometimes things just don't work out that way, just take everything as it comes. One hurdle at a time. Also I didn't go back to work after my first so it was a little different for us. My first didn't take a bottle after 9 weeks old and my second we never really bothered with bottles. I find washing and sterilising everything more stressful than breastfeeding but again I'm just at home so it's a little different. My eldest who is 3.5 years breastfeeds currently about 3 times a day but it was down to once... Not sure what happened. My youngest who is almost 9 months breastfeeds about 6 times during the day and 2/3 times over night xxxxxxx
