My little had an outpatient surgery around when he was 12 months old. He was put under anesthesia. They allowed me to with him right before surgery, took him to go under anesthesia without me, and I was there with him right before he woke up. They should have a good sense of how long everything should be timed. Food wise, he wasn't allowed to eat for 12 hours before scheduled surgery- only water.
My son is having surgery tomorrow. To address the first commenters concern, they gave us thorough instructions and addressed all possible questions in a PDF that was given to us yesterday. So it’s possible the original poster just hasn’t gotten that info yet. Personally, I’m most anxious that his surgery isn’t until 10:15 am tomorrow and he can’t eat beforehand 😬 he normally starts eating moments after he wakes up haha.
Hmm.. I actually am a little concerned your doctor hasn’t given you a piece of paper with most, if not all, of these questions already answered, and especially concerned they haven’t sat down with you to have a comprehensive conversation to cover these topics and any questions you have. Even a routine, outpatient procedure warrants this kind of prep. From what I understand, doctors are reluctant to put babies under anesthesia, unless it’s a last resort, in which case they would take the utmost care to fully educate/inform you. I’d personally say trust your gut, momma. Address these concerns with your doctor as soon as you can, tomorrow if possible. There is certainly no harm in seeking a second opinion from a different doctor either, as a dental operation doesn’t sound like an emergency. You got this!
