Yes, you can ask the GP to refer. If the child is school age you can also ask the school to refer. The waiting time in a lot of areas is very long though. I've also heard about asking the GP for "right to choose" which may cut waiting time but when I asked the GP for this option they said it wasn't available. I've heard other people have luck with it so it may depend on which Borough you live in

You can also ask your health visitor depending on the age of the child

You can do a referral through the school, if they are school age. You can also use the right to choose pathway, which is done through the GP. I have done both because the school based route is a 2 year wait in my area. Look up right to choose on Google. You can select the provider with the shortest waiting list and then you give your GP the paperwork to fill out. Mine just told me to fill it out and they would sign it and email it off. It did take them 2 months to do mind you. I had to email them every 2 weeks to chase them up.

If you looking for autism diagnosis try caudwell children’s If anything else and even if autism try right to choose through go

With our first we got a referral from PCP. Our second our PCP put in a referral but the office called and said we need to do it ourselves then I called the psychologist office and they’re like “we need a referral” so it can be difficult. I have no idea what my parents did when I was a kid, but I’m pretty sure they got a referral.
