Buy a condo or house in carajoland (NJ or LI)
Sooo im getting my life together. I'm saving money for my own place but not sure if I want a house or condo in Jackson heights queens. I work in a public hospital and I'm hoping to work for the DOE in the future (im a social worker) . I want to stay here in queens bc it's the neighborhood I grew up in, my job is here, and there's so many things around here that I would miss if I move out. But then condos are expensive and the price for it is around the price for a house in NJ. Any thoughts

I'd suggest get the condo in NYC. I'm thinking same as you, saving for anothe home or just down size but for the same price. Coming from experience as a home owner it's alot of work especially for 1 person if you have children as well. I'm also a social worker so I completely understand the pros and cons you have to weigh between locations for career/housing. Have you tried looking in your area and comparing pricing and the area in NJ you're looking into? Some areas of NJ are Just as pricey as nyc. You can also messaged me privately if you'd like too!
