Before my induction (due to going past 41 weeks), I read a pamphlet the hospital provided. The pamphlet reads, and I quote, ‘for a small amount of women induction does not work’ and that if this was the case an emergency c section may be needed. I needed an emergency c section and more than half the women I have spoke to since my induction also ended up with an unplanned c section. Tbh I feel like the pamphlet is misleading and the chances of an emergency c-section from an induction were downplayed & not explained to me. A quick google says 35.9% chance of induction leading to c section, which I wouldn’t say was a ‘small amount’, even then I question this figure.
If you had an induction can you complete the poll? I am just interested. I am still questioning my birth story, I don’t think the induction was right for me.

My induction worked - but still lead to c-section for other reasons.
I had the pessary fitted and it fell out at some point but it did bring on labour, my waters broke “naturally” and I laboured to 7cm. It’s difficult to say whether the section was specifically due to the induction or not, but for the purpose of inducing labour then it did work.
I think it’s more referring to the fact that sometimes inductions don’t induce labour, therefore sections are needed? Ie having a pessary fitted, having waters broken and none of that bringing on contractions therefore C-section is required.
It’s well known that inductions are highly likely to result in further intervention, be it forceps or sections etc xx

I had to be induced as I was 43 weeks pregnant. I had a pessary, and 2 rounds of proctin before I actually went into labour. I ended up having the hormone drip for 23 hours without ever getting past 3cm dilated. Ended up having emergency c-section due to “maternal exhaustion”.

Not this birth but with my 1st son at 41+1 my induction lead to emergency C-section. This time round I elected for a C-section.

Not a C-section, but my induction happened so quickly and aggressively there was no time for pain relief, I had to be put under general anaesthetic and my little boy was forceped out 🥴
aww blimey you poor thing!
I think I would also opt for an elective c-section 2nd time round!
gosh! That must have been such a whirlwind x

I did end up with an induction because my waters had partially broken without labour beginning and I was 2cm dilated. In any other scenario I had explicitly said I would refuse an induction and have a planned C-section because of the risk of emergency C-sections being so high with an induction. For me it was because of the higher risk of cascading intervention once you've gone down the induction route and the higher change of an epidural etc and distress for the baby for the intensity of the labour. As it happens my labour was actually really quick - 5 hours and on gas and air as it was quicker than anyone expected

Induced at 39 weeks due to high blood pressure, had 2x pessary and lots of contractions but cervix didn’t dilate, ended in c section and wish I was never induced! Will be electing for a c section if I have any more I think

My induction lasted 3 whole days. It was extremely fiddly and did absolutely nothing other than making me and baby exhausted and I had an emergency C-section in the end 😢

My induction was due to my waters breaking, my contractions did start on their own several hours after they broke however I wasn’t dilating quick enough so we had the gel induction and the drip over 72 hours, to which I just wasn’t dilating quick enough and a lot of time had lapsed - me and baby weren’t distressed it was more of an infection risk we decided to go down for a section x

40 hours in labour and only got to 5 cm , ended up as a c section . My second baby I was in natural labour but her heart rate dropped so another emergency c section 😭 I feel like I was robbed twice .

I had an emergency c section but that was for other reasons, not because the induction didn’t work x

My induction (hormone drip) worked a little too well. They had to reduce the dose as my contractions were too close together- I basically got no break from them. I ended up giving birth 7 hours after starting the drip & the pain was intense, I could barely move. I had gas & air, then the pethidine injection, then I asked for an epidural but I was too close & had started to naturally push at that point so wasn’t able to get it.

Had an induction with my 4th but just needed my waters breaking which lead to a normal delivery I was 39 + 5

Induced at 41+2. Had pessary at 11pm, waters broke at 4am. By 9am, I hadn’t had any contractions so dr said we needed to wait for a bed to start me on oxytocin drip to force contractions, as needed to have the baby within certain amount of hrs or she wld be at risk of infection. After lots of waiting around, We didn’t get a bed til 4ish. I was checked & was only 1cm dilated, but even though a lot of water came out when waters broke, they could feel more & needed to break my forewaters (waters at the back) after an uncomfortable moment of legs in stirrups, stretching me with fingers and using a hook to break the waters (didn’t really hurt, I breathed through it, but was just an uncomfortable moment) Was started off on the drip. Baby responded fine at first, but as contractions heightened and became intense, baby’s heart raced so had to stop, wait & have C section x

I was induced at 39 weeks due to poly (too much amniotic fluid)
Tried to induce me for 5 days, Pessary didn’t work, gel worked too fast - they had to then slow labour down. Didn’t dilate at all. Tried to break my waters 3 times I wasn’t even 1cm..
Ended up having unplanned c section

Induction worked, but then I had 12 hours of regular contractions without progressing. I chose the hormone drip over a c section
