Toddler adjusting to newborn

Does anyone else's toddler completely ignore their newborn sibling? My toddler is 2.5 years old, she doesn't want anything to do with her new sister. I've tried involving her in caring for the baby, changing nappies, feeding etc and she says no. She refuses to hold her or sit by her. I've even bought a book about becoming a big sister she doesn't even want me to read it. It's been 3 weeks now, has anyone had a similar experience?

Yep! My son is the same with his sister… he actually cringes when I bring her close to him and sometimes even lets out a big “ew” 😂 I’m hoping he adjusts when she grows a bit more and becomes more responsive because usually he’s fine with other toddlers/bigger babies.

My 3 yo is the opposite, he is loving the baby and sometimes gets so excited jumping and cuddling her I am afraid he is going to accidentally hurt her. I think I would prefer if he was ignoring her at least for the first couple of months 😅

My son's 18 months and occasionally he'll come up and rub his little brothers head, and he's kissed the top of his head a couple of times but apart from that he gets ignored😂 I did catch him giving a bottle to his favourite Teddy the other day when I left one out so I think maybe he might be getting better. I'm getting him his own baby next week in hopes he might be more interested then😂

@Maaham my daughter is the same “ew smelly” while holding her nose. 😂I think because baby is still so small it will get better once baby becomes more responsive x

@Kayla Mine screams “ew, tissue tissue!!” I don’t think he’s very fond of her peeling skin 😂

@MaahamChildren are so funny 😂 the things they come up with.
