Bed Time

Anyone else struggling to put their LO down for bed at night? My LO takes HOURS to finally go to sleep. I do a bath at 7pm, feed her, etc for a bedtime routine. She falls asleep for 10 min in her crib, wakes up, and I try rocking/shushing/feeding/etc to put her back down. It’s a vicious cycle that lasts for hours. Advice please!!!

Is she EBF? My baby is exactly the same and wondering if introducing a bottle of formula before bed would be beneficial for him.

Yes EBF! Once she’s finally asleep for the night, she sleeps between 4-6 hours before her next feed. But it’s a nightmare trying to get her down for sleep after her bath 😅

LO is still very young, so this sounds normal. It takes up to 4 months for babies to recognise the difference between day and night, and for circadian rhythm to kick in. Things that may help - expose baby to natural/artifical light night as much as possible during day - try and get out in natural light before noon I.e get out for a walk - start to slowly limit day naps to 2 hours at a time (but conscious LO is still young, so do this gradually) - consider a later bedtime. At 3 months it’s very normal to have a later bedtime - ours was between 10 and 11pm

It might be worth adjusting the night time routine, how long is her wake window before 7pm? You can extend it or shorten it depending. Make sure she is right in that spot of not being undertired or overtired. Baby is still very young so you have plenty of time to establish a routine that works for you x

Mine has just started getting more difficult at 14 weeks! Since she was 8 weeks old we have had a fairly consistent bedtime routine with bath st 8pm, bottle (formula- she is breastfed the rest of the day) then sleep. Previously she would be asleep by 9.15/9.30, and sleep approx 6 hrs before waking. In the last couple of weeks she has gone to sleep more quickly, often not having much of her formula, but then woken up 2 or 3 times before the long sleep. Last night she finally settled around 11pm. Wondering if it's sleep regression! We have done a couple of earlier bedtime routines but don't seem to have cracked it yet!
