Severe reflux- how do you get out!?

Hello all. My LO has horrendous reflux- still trying to establish the cause and have been referred to gastro & also investigating allergies. He’s sick after ever single feed multiple times and is EBF. He can be sick 40 times a day! Not small possets either. He’s had tongue tie cut, had an oral assessment and seen an osteopath. Tried meds, they don’t stay down nor does Carobel. Anyway, any other mums with reflux babies as severe as that- how the hell do you get out of the house!? I baby wear a fair bit to keep him upright but he’s puking all over himself and me and it’s not always possible to get us both changed when out and about. He’s 13 weeks now and really want to try and get to some more classes etc but it’s honestly horrendous trying to get him ready as he’ll be puking getting dressed, getting in car seat, when out walking, when playing on his mat etc! Help 😅

Been there, it’s rough I completely sympathise!! Spare clothes for you and him in the car, a shit load of muslins everywhere, and if you’re able to go out with someone one of you sit in the back to hold a muslin under his chin to catch anything before you get there. As much as I know it’s a fuss having to clean and change everything, I promise everyone in the baby classes will understand and help you! Also cutting out all dairy made a huge huge difference for us. Everyone kept talking about it being cows milk protein allergy but my boy needed everything including the goats milk ones cut out x

@Lara yes thank you it so hard and I feel like people think you’re exaggerating or something! We go through 15 bibs a day & as many muslins! I’ve cut out dairy, soya and wheat so far for over 6 weeks and it’s not made a difference. Will have to try egg next. Could be anything though and just don’t know what to do. Was your LO breast fed too? Did you manage to keep going? X

Yeah he was breastfed u til he turned 1, and also allergic to eggs! I’d didn’t even think about that because when I stopped having dairy I went fully vegan so didn’t know that could’ve been contributing until he had them when he was weaning and came out in hives. The reflux definitely also got better just as he got older, but omg I’ve never done so much laundry as those first 6 months😵‍💫 fingers crossed you find something that helps it! Definitely give cutting egg a go, fish is another one my boy is allergic to but I imagine that’s not something people eat often enough to cause it (I don’t eat it so have no idea😂) x

@Lara that’s brilliant! I’m really hoping to keep going just as long as his weight gain doesn’t falter. Is your LO ok with soya then? I’ve got 2 more weeks of wheat to do, then I’ll trial reintroduction (no improvement yet) and then it’ll be egg! I eat salmon once a week but that’s it! Gosh do you find it hard managing his allergies? X

We had this! I just gave up and got used to smelling like sick, it’s temporary. We didn’t have enough clothes to change my daughter every time she was sick, so we just had loads of bibs to at least try and keep her a bit clean 🤦🏼‍♀️ we tucked a muslin over her carrier as well to keep that as clean as we could, and I just had sick on me for 6 months!

@Jessica did you find after 6 months it started to get a bit better? I’ve read some people saying their child was over one and still really sick and I just cannot deal with it that long! X

Oh wow, that would be so tough! We were lucky and it started getting better when we introduced solid foods, by 7 months it had mostly stopped and was just a dribble here and there!x

@Jessica I’m praying weaning will help us! Dietician mentioned weaning early at 4 months but I am very reluctant to do that. Did you give your LO any meds? Doctors just ram them down your throat if you mention anything! X

He never had soya until weaning (and was fine with it) because I’m allergic😂 definitely worth the trial and error if you want to keep BFing, I’m really glad I did! I don’t find it hard at home because most my meals are vegan anyway, but meals out or just wanting to grab something for him on the go is trickier x
